Blade CP

I recently fitted a Hi-authourity tail motor and direct drive. The GWS direct drive upgrade.

I have burnt out three motors each within 5mins, and a IC ( Tail output FET) has fallen off inside the 4-1, Im guessing it over heated.

Im using a 3 cell li-po.

I did Not run the motors in, not sure how much difference that makes.

I managed to resolder the FET, and it works fine, but now using stock tail motors.

Any ideas whats caused this problem.

Thanks

Update to whom it may interest.

I just tried a new hi-authority motor with direct drive.

I ran the motor in for 4hrs in water with a 1.5v battery.

And again the motor burned out with in 5 mins, I also noticed I need to have the gyro gain and the proportional mix almost to full.

Also the tail FET inside the 4-1 has burnt out

So I guess the tail motor was being driven pretty hard.

That motor isn't actually designed to withstand more than 6 volts, so it burnt out, aside from that the FET in your 4 in 1 burnt out because it's not made to supply anywhere near the amperage that that motor was pulling, in other word it was just a really bad combo for the CP. I would stick with the stock set up, or you could try the dual tail motor set up.

I contacted the manufacture of the Hi-authority motor , and they said the motor can take 11v.

The stock motors run fine with 3 cell li-po.

I tried the Hi-authority motor with a pinion and drive gear, and it ran ok, but no improved tail authority.

As soon as I used the directdrive it caused problems.

It seems the DD cases the motor to over heat and draw a large current.

but like you say, stick with stock from now on.

That motor will take 11 volts yes, but then again, you could run 110 V through it too, it would just burn out alot faster... I figure if your good enough to need more than the CP can give, it may be time for a Trex or something like that...

I'm running the GWS F50H motor (NOT the F50 - it'll only handle about 6v) and GWS 4530 props cut down to 3.75" on my CP. I can hover an entire 3C 1320mah battery without cooking the 4-in-1 or the tail motor. The motor does get hot after 22 mins of work, but not so hot you can't leave your fingers on it for several seconds.

Prior to cutting down the props, I couldn't fly more than about 5 mins before the motors would be VERY hot. I suppose you could run the GWS 3030 props and tweak the propo/gain, but my LHS doesn't stock those. They do stock the 4530s and it takes about 5 mins to cut them down (I use scissors) and balance them.

Not sure if it matters, but I run a brushless main motor on mine and have the head speed up around 2100 RPM.
