I have an EF Yak with 68 flights on it. The hatch is painted to match, and it is rock solid, just like the day it maidened. It weighs 15lb 2oz. It is built light, but strong. On those, so called, paper thin cowls, if you will back the mounting holes with 1/32 ply, they won't wallow out. My .02.

One suggestion is to try the
K&S muffled tuned pipe and header on the DA 50.
This should give you more power to
be able to handle the weight better.
The pipe tunnel is one of the reasons I went this
the AW Yak insted of the QQ Yak 54.
I kind of knew that the weight would be a factor.
I have yet to have any ARF come out at the
advertized weight. Wood selection is key.
Light wood is more expensive than heavy wood.

Good flying.

i have slimline pitts and a mtw can and header
only 2 oz diff
each muffler or can will have different weight,,all metal varys in weight and strenght,,
my stuff is only 2 oz,,my ks can is prob, more ,bigger diamiter but little shorter,,
when i have to take it out of my hare i will weight,,

Ahh, but the slimline is not a stock exhaust, so that kinda makes sense then. But you have to account for all the additional wood and hardware needed to mount a cannister, too, and the teflon coupler and spring clips.

what is stock??da dosen't make a muffler ..
only thing i didn't weight is the 1\4"x1"ply and silicone same size..
tunnel comes in plane so its there if you use it or not
didn't go with tuned pipe or a pitts style cause a can will give the most hp and throttle response,,tuned pipe dosen't have as good as a can in response..i figure 3d needs the response,,

i think the ks is more weight

I have the 50cc Yak on order and all this weight to power talk is making me nervous. The DA50 is recommended but I am told it might not be enough, particullary coming out of a harrier or low hover. One of my club members recommend the MVVS 58. Any of your thoughts would be welcome Jim

you build it right with no smoke or extra unneeded weight,,
i have a wildhare extra ,,at its most weight with smoke it still pulled out,,and the motor was on its way do loseing power from a recall on the crank and bearing,,,
so for its the best looking and built arf i've seen,,
just remember when you want to 3d every oz counts,,,,,

Actually, my hatch problem was with my QQ, and both cowls had issues with cracking if you looked at them funny. I use CA hinge material under where my screw holes are drilled, so that was never a problem.

Sure they do, or at least they have someone make them for them and they offer it on their site.
"DA-50-R Muffler: $69.00"
And it only weighs like 4.5-5 ounces

It'll add another pound, but that engine is definitely a powerhouse. Up at my elevation, the DA is only good for about 15 pounds for mediocre pullout (and I mean sluggish). A brand new 58, still breaking in, was easily hovering a 17-3/4 pound plane, and this is at 6800 feet of elevation. I have no doubt in my mind that the 58 will haul the heck out of an 18-19 pound plane at sea level.
