I've few unused engine, and this some in my mind

1. .50SX 2st (just replace bearing and still not run in after)
2. .52 2st Vmax
3. .71 4st magnum
4. .90 2st super tiger (still in the box) weight 10gr only dif with .61 ST

i'll go for .90 2st ringed ST due I'll play at near my house lake but my hometown on south just back of my parent house is South China Sea .. will have fun with open sea wave and off course it's salt water!

when i mount any servo and engine.. im to lazy to transfer it to other.. i'll leave them on the plane..

I know there is a vibration problem with ST .90 but my other .90 2st on extra 60 WM have no prb with this vibration. Just make sure read ST manual, follow the step when break in..

the only i hate this engine is the muffler.. to bulky but last night when i play around on this seaplane mounting(side mount).. you no need to dig big hole for the muffler due it's have "Muffler Exhaust Manifold" ... at least just put the entire muffler at out side...

btw have u heard ST .90 2st running with out Muffler? they only put "Muffler Exhaust Manifold" then fly.. wondering does the engine lasting?

Im going to do everything i can to keep the tailweight down , no servos in the back , will use carbon tube pushrods and bellcranks , tank on the CG with a pump to the engine also the OS 55 is only 14.5 oz very light for its 1.75hp....this will mean less nose weight and a lighter plane overall ........ all my servo are in the fuse front, I use Sullivan push-pull on elev & rudder. I've no pump so tank will be on back but thr servo will be replaced from standard to mini digital. ( but i think not much different)

Btw Ian what in your mind to mount your antenna ?

i've few Jet aerial from http://www.jetlegend.com/showaccessories.php?ShowSN=30 and I think will fit this at the back top.

Hi Ian.

Firstly i hope you will get your SeaWind soon.

I'm using ST .90 ringed with stock pipe.. so bulky muffler but only minimum drill out due have muffler extender, but plenty of power with APC 2 blade 12x8. It's only around 1/2 - 3/4 prop clearance to fuselage.

I use triple rate one my flaps, 1st step it's only 1/2" and 2nd step is 2 3/4. (I'm little bit forgot the actuals figure.. will check it tonite for your info). Using 1st step for take off and 2nd step for landing. Need very gentle throttle and can't be immediate else you will spin the plane and I did this few times . before take off I did play taxi around half tank to see how to turn this this with out NO water rudder. To turn this thing are very simple if you play 3D with no tail wheel dragger control.. exactly same way.. to land this things u need full flaps down (i use 2nd rate) and more than +-1/4 throttle else you'll drop this plane. I'm using all sullivan rod to elev and rudder except rudder I use simple bellcrank to out put. All servo at front fuselage except throttle rudder and his place.

I'm adding weight around 280gr at the end front and the battery also at this end front.. I'm keep them tight.

Oh boy.. this is true scale amphibian and this end week if weather allow i'll try to climb higher and trying to fly as slow it's can and will give some report.

You need speed to turn this things.. if u have speed there is no prb to turn it.

If you don't have speed then you can play punch and release your throttle.. it's mean push the throttle immediate then immediate pull.. in mean time u need to turn your rudder to max..

Play it's first and you will use to it. I play till half tank and to taxi it it's pretty kool.. have fun..

Does anyone have experience with moving the fuel tank into the fuse bottom, at the cg point? When I do this, do I need to adjust my cg measuring point? Directions indicate 90mm (3.54") from LE. Somebody was telling me that it will need to be adjusted because the weight of the fuel was included when the CG was calculated. I know to measure the cg with a dry tank.

thanks,
rcs

Unless the instructions specifically tell you otherwise, you should always balance the airplane at the recommended CG with the tank empty, unless the tank is behind the CG. If it is, the tank should be full. You want to balance the airplane in the it's tailheaviest condition, so that as the fuel is burned, the airplane gets noseheavier, not the other way around.

As to moving the CG if you put the tank on the center of the fuse, and it were a Great Planes Seawind, I would say yes, because I know that they consider the fuel weight when they recommend a CG. No one knows how NitroPlanes/CMP/??? decides on their recommended CG.

Normally I would say that you should balance the airplane as recommended, with the tank in the stock position. Then fill or drain the tank half way and find out where the airplane balances in that condition (Call that CG2). That should be it's best flying position. Then move your tank wherever you want, still half full, and rebalance the airplane at CG2.

But all of that is a waste of time if you don't know whether the recommended CG is any good. My advise is to find someone who has flown it successfully and ask him where his CG is. Then you can do the above with some confidence.

Jim

Fay , where did you have the CG , ?? where the instructions say 90mm - 3.5" or a bit more forward (with a full tank)....the Great Planes one ELECTRIC has flown with it at 2.1/8" and says it can go back a bit more (no fuel tank)

Hi Ian,

I've put on 90cm as on manual but after 1st atemp I add more 30-50gr weight on nose and should be 100cm now. Mostly for me batter nose heavy rater than tail heavy on scale plane.

Ahhh , Mate , I think you mean 90 mm , not cm , and if you added nose weight , that would move the CG forward to maybe 80mm??? could you please check it again and measure from the wing front edge .....Thanks Fay P/S , I got my Lipo's 4.250 aH x 6s and an opto ESC 60aH , for my NITRO Seawind , Ive already got the Rimfire outrunner from Tower

i just got my nitroplanes seawind in today for christmas and i have begun final assembly.. the instructions (as stated here) just plain suck! i would also like to know if 80mm is a better cg? how are they all holding up guys? has anyone installed the included landing gear and run it off land? would it wear the bottom thin to run it off of our club's grass runway without the landing gear? probably too heavy to be doing things like that with it right? i just dont want to cut into the hull of this thing to install the front gear or cut the covering for the main gear! i will obviously run it off of water 90% of the time but the few times i would like to fly it at the flying field would it be smart to run it off of grass with no landing gear?

anyone have any video of this plane in flight? i know i will by the end of this week, but i would like to see some footage before hand of maybe a maiden if possible! i am so scared of having this thing out of balance due to all of the cg issues everyone is having adding 22oz of weight thats crazy! it would kill me to see this thing wounded due to a balance issue so if anyone has any solid testing results on the cg issue please let me know! thanks!

did anyone else get the wrong size nylon bolts for this plane? the blind nut fell out of one wing panel and it is down in the wing but the worst part is that i dont have anything to screw into! how can i get the blind nut back into place? should i just go get a molly bolt (the one with the collapsing wings that unfold once they get in the hole) or should i try to get that blind nut back into place? do i need to use a nylon bolt or will the steel molly bolt work? thanks! oh and can i run it off grass with no landing gear?

and here is what happens when the vertical stabilizer gives when you go from 1/4 to full throttle because the vertical stab is weak.. i was cruising along at 1/4 throttle on the maiden flight, i went full throttle and heard a loud crack noise then the prop cutting into the body and the plane falling from the sky following one half of the prop! it was terrible, first off i am in college and this is my christmas gift from my wife and i just watched it fall helplessly.
