Hello,

I need to learn everything I can about charging and discharging, cycling both nicad and nimh battery packs. Are there articles online I can learn from? books?

You can try www.batteryuniversity.com for lots of info. However, this site it not R/C specific. It's just the only one I could think of at the moment. Here's a pretty good summary of battery care also: http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lane/batteries/g-batteries-care.asp There are other sites out there, keep looking.

Question: Can I charge a 1500Mah NiMH 4.8V battery pack with my Futaba wall charger, which is ment for a 500Mah NiCad??

Yes, yes you can but it would take a little longer to charge than a 500mah pack would.. About 3 times as long..

Yes. However.. saying the charger was meant for a 500mAh battery does not necessarily mean it also has 500mA output. Please check the label sticker, or the back panel for actual specs. Charging time will largely depend on the actual mA output. To get a fair idea how long to charge, use the following formula :

charging time = ( battery mAh / charger mA output ) x 1.3

Example:

( 1500 mAh battery / 150 mA charger ) x 1.3
= 10 hours x 1.3
= 13 hours
