thats the spur gear and it can only be a couple of things, one u don't have the mesh right 2- just tighten the nut thats on the end of it all the way and losen it 1/8 of a turn. that should be good

the metal spur works great, ive had no problems since i've installed mine. but u need to get a hardened clutch bell also, cause the stock spur is too soft. check out the savage-store.com. part #HTRSSVX449T, thats your metal spur, remember that u need to buy the slipper pads for the metal gear also, and u can use either the 14t or 15t clutch bell with it.

I have an X with an OS .30 i've been through so many spur gears it not even funny any more. But I dont know what the problem is I've tried different bells and spurs, today I put a 48 tooth robison racing steel on it. I hope it will last at least a week, normally I go through 2 a day

ok guys im going to tell you a hobby shop secret to setting the mesh on the spur gears

ok frist thing the package that the gear comes in dont rip it , just below the tag take a knife and cut it , then replace the gear , and just befor you go to tighten the motor mount screws stick the package that the gear came in between the spur and the clutch bell , snug the screws but let them still move a bit for now from the right side of the truck softly push the motor mount and snug the screws all the way down , and you shouldnt have any problems till you get something between the gears .

i know this due to i work at a hobby shop and have set more than i care to count this way and it is suggested by the tech dept from hpiracing the package that the gear comes in is the corect 2mm mesh this is also true with the robinson metal gears too

one of the biggest causes of melted spur gears is an idle that is set to high and it engages the clutch and you have to use more brakes to keep it from moving and this heat on one part of the spur gear causes it to melt.
