V8 gas engine in a boat
So I've been thinking about getting a working model V8 for a while (the unassembled one so I have some more building to do) I'm sure you have all seen these and I was wondeing about putting one in a large mono hull. The only problem I can think of is you would have to put a gear induction system to get the prop to speed (I don't think they have trannies. RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
Oh yeah !!!!!
Has to be the best model engine i've ever had to play with, the sound of that lil V8 pullin 14k rpm is just the best sound you'll ever hear in a model boat.
If that is what your considering , be very carefull with your choice of boat, get something that is very stable and least likely to flip or roll, mabe a cat ! imagine what water would do to the lil V8 if it got a drink at high revs.
The jetsprint was a good choice for the V8 as if pushed to hard into a corner it would just spin out and top speed wasn't full on so its wasn't likely to blow over.
But if you are going to spend all the $$$$$$$$$ i would recomend spending that lil extra & get the blown version that is 6hp, the level entry was only 3.5hp but still fun.
Heres a lil video of it running before i sent it off to the owner. [link=http://www.swashdrive.com.au/images/Movies/V8&zenoah.MPG]V8 Jetsprint[/link]
Or yeah Mark i nearly have your Jetsprint ready, will be sending u an email shortly mate
Regards

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
That's gotta be the coolest boat I've ever seen. I was considering getting the supercharged version. Did you get yours assembled or unassembled? I'd like an unassembled version cause it'd be more fun to build and hopefully be a little cheaper. Did you get yours from conley or is there another manufacturer? Also what jet drive is that? Do you have a remote start on that? I think it'd be awesome to hook up a third channel and be able to kill and start your boat from the transmitter. Excellent work by the way.

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
I got the V8 assembled and pre run, i didn't know Gary Conley sold em un assembled, man that would just be a nightmare putting that crank in, its all done with fraqured bearings with a thousand needle rollers, four bolt mains, solid cam, roller rockers. All the good gear you'd expect to see in a worked small block Chev.
Yes it has an electric start, but i started from remote battery. But the boat did carry the onboard glow battery, servo activated as every now and again one or two cyl would drop out, quick flick on the control and it was all happening again.
I ran an 6 channel radio !
1ch steering
2ch throttle
3ch nozzel trim
4ch glow plugs
5ch starter motor
6ch spare
I know theres a few other manufactures now making V8s but when it comes to service and customer support you can't go wrong with Gary, awesome fella.

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
If I could afford those I'd do it. Can you imagine two of those blown in a scale MTI or Pier 57 racing cat! That would be AWESOME!

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
I love these engines... My dream build would be something like a scarab or fountain scale build with 2 replica blown 504's.. Having a power engine hatch and all the other bells and whistles while having 12+ hp in the hull... It would be sweet, but I would imagine a price tag of over 15K, maybe even 20K if you really went for the full scale setup.

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
I was told by Gary that hes coming out with a petrol version of this V8, Now that would be cool, no more messing around with that nitro & all the other equip required for running nitro. I didn't know you could get spark plugs that small.
Yeah Matt i know, i want to get a crate Gen III 350 Chev from holden to repower my full size jetsprint, i wanna get rid off all the cast iron and go alloy, the chev is cheaper than the conley, but still need to do some saving [&o]

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
I was under the impression that they were petrol powered. So I'm guessing the wires to the plugs are hooked to a battery for warming all 8 plugs at the same time. I also found a website www.replicaengines.com that has some more mini v8's and some vintage engines as well

Like verything the smaller you want it the more you will pay. and when you are talking about a very small market segment they have to charge alot. For the money I spent already on the new boat I cold have purchased a Twin or supercharger kit for my Mustang.

For the money I have spent on the hobby I would have a new Ford GT (not a mustang - a GT) in the driveway.

Your money was spent on something much better. I stopped drag racing and doing autoX because of all the money I was throwing away.
I do plan on having a new Z06 in the driveway as the weekend car, but only once I can get one for MSRP or less. I don't pay over msrp ever, I did't do it on the hummer and won't do it on the vette.

Had to chime in real quick Chuck....Right now Saleen will hold the record for US's best with the S7 Twin Turbo. I doubt that chevy would put out a 1000 HP Corvette, I dont think they would sell many.

RE: V8 gas engine in a boat
Ok, Sorry Chuck. I know this'll freak you out, but gotta put my dime in too. GM is VERY tight lipped about future corvettes. You never know til the last minute about those guys. Bet it'll be better than 500 BHP though I wonder if it'll come with a K-Mart gift certificate for a change of undies
And just to keep the mods happy... there is know way I'm gonna buy an engine for 7 grand and then take a chance on it takin a drink...come to think of it I don't think I'd spend that on a toy no way
