I've read through the instructions and I have a good handle on them except for:
How "tall" should the wing spar be? I can't find traditional yardsticks. I bought a 1-1/2 x 48" piece of Poplar. It's 1/4"thick.
I was thinking a yardstick is between an inch and 1-1/4"
Thoughts? Also, I could not find the correct gutter pipe and settled for the 2-1/4x 3 pipe.
Looking forward to getting this plane in the air. Thanks.

The sqaure gutterpipe can be found alot of times at the mom and pop hardware stores. The 2x3 will work, but its a whole lot flimsier than the 2 1/2" square is (but lighter as well).

I get my yardsticks from the paint department at Home depot.
They are generally about 5/32 x 1 1/8 x 36.

Nothing wrong with the 1 1/2 x 1/4. Might be a bit heavier than a couple of yardsticks (1 1/2 oz each). I'd rip it down to about 1 1/4" height, and then pretend its the 2 yardsticks glued together like the plans show.

Believe it or not, the spar height is not that critical. I've used anything from 3/4" high to 1 1/4" and cannot really tell much difference in the planes performance. Like Chris said, the yardsticks are 1 1/8" tall and that height works great. As for the gutterpipe, yes, the stuff you have will work fine, but it is a little thinner walled than the square pipe, and the rear cut-out will be a little flimsier, so you may want to make the rear fuselage cut-out shorter so that the vertical is more solid. In doing so, you could bring the servos further forward so that they are inside the radio hole cut-out, and just make longer pushrods like the Debby.

Wht even mess with the flimsy stuff? Just build a fuse out of 4mm coro. It's almost as strong as the regular PVC, but it has some give in the event of an unplanned meeting with dear ole mother earth.

Just my .0002,
