just thought I would show you guys a picture of my plane made from foam posterboard bought at Office Max. It has a 60 inch wingspan and weighs in at only 5 lbs. I built the main wing just like a balsa wing and it is VERY strong. I dont think there is anything I could do to damage it.

The wingspan is 60". It has 7 ribs in each wing counting the ends of the wing, and one spar running the length of the wing. The spar is interlocked with the ribs for strength. The wing is built in two 30" sections and then joined together with a 1/4" spacer between them at the bottom of the wing to make it dihedral. Two more pieces of poster board are glued to the top and bottom of the wing at the joint for incredible strength. The bottom of the wing is flat. CA hinges for the ailerons shown in the photo arent gonna work. The glue doesnt work well with the foam. I am gonna try using either: tape down the whole length of the ailerons or try gluing the CA hinges to the surface of the wings. Probably the latter of the two, as this will look better.

Hey, great looking trainer. Spads are all about being resourceful and trying new things! For the ailerons, glue a wood dowel on the trailing edge with epoxy or poly glue, then you can slot them and use ca hinges

looks good. Hinge points glued into foam with polyurethane glue work great. I've been using them to hinge all my foam stuff, and the polyglue doesn't eat foam like ca does.

Thanks for the tips about the glue for the hinges. I already solved the problem for now using the same yellow tape that I used for the striping. I just ran the tape down the hinge points and use the tape as a hinge. The tape I am using is an industial strength tape and it is stuck on the plane for good! I dont think it will give any problems and it looks really clean. I also changed the motor from a .40 to a .36 and put the .40 in my Duraplane. I am also rebuilding my Sig Kadet that I treed and I am using the same poster board for the hor. and ver. stabilizers. This stuff is great! Really cuts down on the build time and looks really nice once its painted. i will post pictures when im finished with it. Probably wont be for a few weeks though. I took a really bad hit with some trees and took 2 large bites out of the main wing. Looks like it should be pretty easy to fix though.
