I agree about the plug. I do have to admit this is a new twist

Sorry to hear BB...but I'm with you on the injuries....I figured I'd just get the engine tuned when I got to my buddies house, and it was giving me the same problem, and like you I thought it was the glow plug. I tried like 3 different ones, and as soon as I took off the igniter they'd die.....then randomly the engine seized on me. Do you guys think it's worth all the time tuning/fixing these engines, or should I throw 100bucks into a new one?

You are asking the guy with eight Terrors and not a 25 in the house? You have a wide range of engines to make the Terror scoot. The Picco 26 is my favorite. The Hpi 4.6 was my first transplant and it stills runs super.

Aleknocker is the 25 man. I would pass if it is out of warranty and get a 28 of some sort or Picco 26 if you can find one. BB

Does a Savage flywheel and clutch shoes work an Axial .28 with the stock tower clutch bell? I'm looking at some aluminium ones on Ebay.

That will work perfectly! Buy away, if you switch to Hpi bells, you have to buy the hardened bell. Your Axial 28 will not turn as much rpm as the 25, so you will lose some top speed, you will never know it though, because you will love all that low end, wheel standing, grass tossing power. The kit shoes from Hpi are great, not the plastic, but the composite. I think they came on the 4.6 trucks. Anyway, aluminum is good too, just buy the springs with the shoes if you can. BB

This is what you can expect, same engine, same clutch bell.

I sell or give my 25s away, so ask Aleknocker about the 25. I just got frustrated with them and do not mess with them. The Axial 28 is a riot in one, a Picco 26 is overkill, a geared up Axial 32 is a riot as well. I have an LRP, it is an excellent engine and would work well in the Terror, but is probably more horse than you need. The stock bell is fine with the Savage clutch parts. You might as well install clutch bell bearings though, the originals unload pretty early in life. The Terror has a very strong differential, no slipper clutch, no center differential and uses the spur gear for a brake disc. The center drive shaft runs full length and has no joints. Front bumpers and wheelie bars are easy to break. If you want to turn a grassy area or a sand lot into a world of fun, they will do that. If you want to crank them up and see how far they can fly, you will break the bumper and wheelie bars. You can also bend the chassis plates on a hard crash. Did I miss anything gang? The front axles will twist at the CV if you cartwheel or land on that wheel under power or on the brakes. BB

Axial 32

Picco 26

Axial 28 or Hpi 4.6

I think BB got it all. Yes sealing the engine really helps with the stock 25 engine. The Terror has a third needle which i missed during the initial sealing but once i sealed it runs great. The stock engine if tuned right can really be a blast. I keep my terror stock for now because they replace anything that breaks under warranty. Plus if you are a tower super savers club you can extend your warranty to 6 months. The only thing i broke so far were were two front knuckle and hubs. With some really nasty crashes. Plus, the stock servo's are garbage. I had them replaced in the first week. However they send a nice upgrade for the steering servo. So far i have spent $0 dollars on repairs yet. I wish i can say that for my Savage X.

Thanks
Chris

I forgot to include the servos. I am getting old you know.... I have also broken several wheels, mostly in crashes, but a couple doing those out of control, totally by accident 40 mph cartwheels. That short wheelbase truck will tumble like nobody's business at the drop of a hat. It is kind of cool to watch, but disappointing when you find a couple of broken wheels, wheelie bar and front bumper.

The worst damage I have done to one was a rock in the grass at about 40. It would be about as fast to describe what was not damaged. I have not broken any differential gears, differential housings, spur gear, hinge pins or A arms, so do not buy those spares. They are big time strong! I did buy a truck with a broken rear axle housling. BB

I think this was a case of stuffing the wheelie bar into the housing....

So I finally got around to taking apart the frozen clutch engine....When I attempted to pull the bell off, I got nothing but shrapnel! It was pretty obvious and hilarious exactly what had gone wrong and it is as everyone said, the bearing was obliterated! I should be able to salvage one of the other engine though.

I have been fighting the stock throttle linkage on several of my trucks, tonight I was looking at it and decided to try the Hpi Savage linkage in place of the Tower Terror linkage. The rod is straighter, stiffer, long enough to get rid of the bind and has a nice attachment for the return spring. I am liking it! It works smooth, I will give it a good bashing tomorrow. Looks like a good cleaning might not be a bad idea one of these days. BB

Yuck... look at all that cottonwood tree seed......
