I have the 160 on mine. I can not tell you what it would do with the 120 2c. But i like to have the power. Plus with the 160 I did not have to add any weight to the nose or tail with my battery sitting on the CG. As for the elevator servo I put 1 on each half as it made me feel a little bt better than the what it say in the book. Also with the 160 I gave in little over 10 lbs

CJE (or others with an opinion), I am just referring to the prior posting in reference to the 26cc Brillelli that you have on your plane. In your view, would you recommend the Brillelli 36cc engine, or perhaps even a 40cc engine to get a little more pull? I know someone had previously mentioned that 50cc would certainly be overkill.

I would like to buy the plane, put a gas engine on it, and put a smoke system on it as well. So, I am looking for a good match between performance and power to pack the added weight of the smoker.

Hey Guys, check out the harrismodelproducts smoke pump,it is the smallest and lightest pump on the market. It only weighs 2 oz and requires no AUX battery. It plugs directly into the RX for power and only draws 25-40 Mah for 6 minutes of smoke, thats less than most high Torque servos. Other systems add 8+ ounces with a pump and AUX battery. The harris pump with an extra tank and lines will only add 4 oz to your airframe,the fluid is extra weight but gets pumped out during flight. rc3dflyr

By the time you are through putting on heating coils, switches and at LEAST 10oz of smoke oil which "gets pumped out" during flight, but is still there through most of the flight and with a typical smoke system you are looking at well over a pound or more of extra weight on a typical 1.20 sized plane or larger.

The 4oz estimate is deceptively over optimistic.

At the very least you must account for the weight of the fluid itself, and since it can be consumed rather quickly we all tend to put in larger tanks.

The lower battery draw is a definite plus though potentially dropping the weight of an additional battery pack for the pump.

Hi folks,
Has anyone tried the new(2008) Cessna Guan Li from Nitroplanes? I just bought one (has not arrived yet) and I was hoping to get some help or tips on assembly and flying. I was a little concerned that it does not have a tail wheel. Should I add one? It comes with a 540 brushless/ gear box and a 8.4V 2400Mah battery. I was thinking of going with Li-Po batteries but worried it will change the CG. Any info would be helpful.

Has anyone tired putting the Saito 1.80 4C on this plane........what would be good four stroke engine for this plane.....I read somewhere that this plane is not a 3D plane....and some places I read it is.....what do you guys think of this plane.....it sure is pretty......I just want enough power with a 4c engine and really don't know what to get.....you help would be appreciated......Thanks.

Well patzane put a 2C 160 on his plane, which produces more power than that 4C 180, so you should be fine.

You'll want to mount the engine inverted so the cylinder head will stick out a good bit, but it will be in the airflow.

Have you guys seen the new 50cc version of the Nitroplanes Ultimate? I'm ordering mine right now! $329.95 plus shipping. Here are the specs.

Specifications:
Wing Span : 71 in / 1800 mm
Wing Area : 1670 sq in / 109 sq dm
Flying Weight : 15.2 lb / 6890 g
Fuselage Length : 78 in / 1980 mm

Requirements:
Engine Required :45CC ¨C 50CC
Radio Radio Required : 4channels 6servos

So what if it takes some upgrading. I have not "built" an ARF yet that was to my liking out of the box. Probably the usual stuff like beefing up the firewall and landing gear area. Maybe some good hardware instead of the supplied metric junk. What the heck. I'll go ahead and commit to buying it and then tell my wife!

I just received the NITROPLANES Ultimate Biplane for 50cc engines and I must say that I was wrong about a couple things. The model is superb and the hardware package is usable and sized correctly for a 50cc size model. Heavy duty rods are hardened and of 4-40 size in comparison to metric standards. The rod ends supplied are all of the "ball-swivel" type with brass inserts. Metal control horns are the same type horns that I recently observed on the Aeroworks 50cc Pitts Python at the TOLEDO R/C EXPO. Robart style hinge points with metal pins. Hinges are preinstalled and are aligned perfectly. The removable top hatch and canopy are all one single molded piece which makes for no canopy line around the perimeter of clear portion of the canopy area eliminating the need for canopy tape or screws. Very nice. Covering and paint is comparable to any ARF I have seen. Wheels are your typical 3.5" diameter "foamies" and I would recommend replacing with a nice set of HANGAR 9 4" wheels. My model did have some very minor damage to the fuselage due to the fact that the model was shipped with the painted to match aluminum landing gear in with the fuselage. The LG apparently crushed a small are just behind the firewall. I peeled the covering back and pushed the area back out from the inside and did some bracing and used a little filler. After some sanding the covering was replaced and the fix was negligable. I will be updating my report as things progress.

I would recommend this model. I have "built" many ARF's and this one is a winner. The tailwheel assembly is very nice and simple that incorporates a tiller arm connected to the bottom of the rudder that elimiinates the dual springs used by some. Model will require a 4" spinner. I prefer the Dave Brown Parabolic spinners on the Ultimate. A little less money than the Tru-Turns and every bit as nice. Different main wheels. I will go to 4" instead of the supplied 3.5" since I am flying off grass and there is room to go bigger with the wheelpants. Aluminum main gear is very robust and adequate and is painted to match the model. Cowl is excellent and I can not say that the paint is perfect but it is better than most. It is almost as big as a paper grocery sack! Due to the sloping underside of the cowl much of the inverted engine will be visible but I am really not concerned and I will be using a wrap around Pitts style muffler which will help with the appearance. The rudder is HUGE so I would strongly suggest a servo of 140 in. oz. minimum. Rudder is set up for pull-pull cables but moving the servo to the rear is possible with some mods. I think I will be looking at a 200 in. oz. servo for my rudder install with the supplied pull-pull cable hookup. My model came to me shipped for a total of $375.00 and worth every buck and I am a great critic. I'm going with the DL-50 and Slimline Pitts muffler and JR S-PCM modulation with HiTec servos. 645-Mg's..625MG's and 5645 MG digitals on the ailerons. Looking at the Hitec HS-5745 MG Digital for the rudder at 250 in.oz. of torque. I am also incorporating the I4C Isolator into the radio system. Pictures to come soon.

This is great to hear. I am very interested in this model. I have been eyeing the Great planes but I like that this one is a little bigger. I hope they do not run out of these before I can place my order.
