Does anyone own this plane? I'd like to buy one and power it with a small gasser. Your reply is greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with the MFR. , but I deffinetly recommened the Ultimate, I've had a 50cc size from world's model's, the plane took alot of work to get it to fly right, but once it was dialed in,,, WOW , it is my favorite plane, I keep a .60 ultra stick as a fun fly plane , but my Ultimate is my baby. AEROWORK'S say they are working on another ultimate, I would wait for it and buy it, if they produce a QB arf like their extra 260 , yak, I will strip my present ultimate ,throw it in the trash and buy their new one. just my opinion. aerowork's has stepped up their arf's BIG - TIME, the 260 is as good as it gets, QB is the way to go, good luck. I would stay away from cheap planes and not so known mfr's. , stay with industry leader's,spend a little more money on good stuff and you can't go wrong.

I was just offered a few choices of Nitroplanes Models for review, and this is one of the planes I am considering. Mike is right though, it's hard to go wrong with an Ultimate.

I just reviewed the Ultimate 120R by World Models last summer, and that one is definitely a winner.

Hi Folks,

I received this plane to-day from Nitroplanes.

Usual story......No templates for the wing alignment.

Also assembly instructions suck so badly they are really useless. I downloaded the instructions from WM Ultimate 120 and can see they are worlds apart.

I will be taking this model to the UK so I wil not be assembling it here in the good old USA.

Has anybody tried to put a 20 - 26 cc gasser on this model yet..?

BCMA are advertising suitable engines for these size models at reasonable prices .... $ 275 complete.

That kinda sucks, I have one on the way also, I have an OS 1.60FX going in it, should be enough!

Cant really expect much when paying Half what you would for a WM's one, just gunna have to slap it together and modify it depending on how it flys.
Does it look good tho? or is it a cheapy??

I have the nitroplanes ultimate, and I absolutely love it!! It has the common short comings of the chinese kits such as instructions and canopies, but over all, it is a great aircraft for the money. I have about 30 flights on mine right now with an O.S. 91FX with 16X6 prop, and it pulls it around pretty good. It will barely hover at full throttle. I didn't like the canopy that came with it, so I spent $16 and bought one from Carl Goldberg, and it fit pretty good. I also changed the tail wheel assembly, and added flying wires, but that is all the changes I made to it. I also checker boarded the bottom of the wings and the stabs. I can post some pics if you want. Over all great airplane if you have a little experience with models!!!!!!

Well I'm happy I finally found a thread on this plane, BUT bummed at the very little experience with this plane, you see I ordered it last night.

And to boot I'll be converting it to electric, I would LOVE to hear from anyone who's has this plane and what they did/expirences.

I will try and post some pics, but this is the first time, and I might not get it right. Again, I love this plane, and it is the best flying airplane I have owned. If only it wasn't pink... oh well.

No, the canopy did not come like that. It is flat gunship grey model paint. I just masked it off and painted it with a foam brush after I got it mounted. It only took ten minutes or so, but makes a world of difference. Jeff

Question, where the kit does not come with a wing alignment template, how did you align yours?

This is my next step and wanted know what the tips/tricks were to doing this

Also what is your AUW, because as of now ( minus electric motor, batteries, esc and BEC) I'm only at 5lbs 13oz and when completed if I hit 8.5 lbs I'll be shocked.

OOHH 1 last question, where did you put your CG and what about the throws.

Over all the build went smooth even though the manual stinks, I think anyone with ARF building experience can put this together with ease.

I have assembled three biplanes including this one without a wing jig, and they all flew great. I just simply mount the wing and measure from the center of the leading edge top to bottom, and the center of the trailing edge top to bottom. Basically you are just making the wing chords parallel. That is definitely the longest building time I took with this model, and it still only took a couple of hours. This is a very light airframe, and honestly, I never weighed mine. I just built it as light as possible and figured that is as good as it will get. If I had to make a guess, I would probably say maybe 9 pounds full of fuel ready to fly. If you have yours at 8.5 you would definitely be good. My CG is about .5 to .75 inches aft of where it states in the manual. I initially did it where the manual says, and it came out way too nose heavy. I mounted everything where it should go, and put my battery pack all the way forward under the gas tank, and I don't use any other weights. My throws came out to about .5 inches up and down for ailerons, 2 inches up, and about 1-1.5 inches down for the elevator, and about 2-2.5 inches on the rudder. These are conservative throws, and I was actually thinking about kicking it up a notch when I go to the field today. Like it is, I can fly the plane extremely smoothly, and still do most things in the book. Great airplane to fly!!! Let me know the progress on yours. I will be interested to see how it comes out as an electric.

This plane is rated as a 1.20.

Has anyone flown it with a 4 stroke 120?

I have a brand new O.S. 1.20 Surpass III w/punp looking for a nice biplane home.

.5 on the aileron throws?

My 40S Ultimate called for 10mm on the throws and I ended up with about 3/4" to improve roll performance on it.

I guess I'll be looking to increase the throws after I maiden mine.

Stay away from NITRO MODELS I got the Ultimate 40s and parts are missing!!!!! Thay do not email me or call me about replacing the parts or helpping me at all DO NOT SHOP THERE

There is no problem getting through to them.

They will replace any missing parts.

I have half a dozen Nitromodels planes now, and have not had problems dealing with them on issues.

E-mailing them, like any company, tends to be hit and miss, depending upon whom you are targetting.

You are better off calling.

As a rule always pick up the phone for resolution with any company. If the person you contact is unhelpful, call back and try to get a hold of someone else.

Check the new support Forum they pasted as well for contact info. They seem to be resolving any user problems.

BTW: The Ultimates they sell are fairly good, albeit light in the instructions, and as with most ARF's requiring a fix or upgrade of hardware or two for best effect.

I have the 40S, 90, BipE and 120 now.

I am at the stage now where I believe I got the correct parts, I am using this motor

As I said before I am using the A123 Li Ion batteries.

Well this was a test with the 10S1P using a 14X7 prop,

as you will see I draw very little current and only get about 7 lbs thrust.

I am using a small prop for this KV, tomorrow morning I'll be off to the LHS and I'll get a range of props to test.

Next weekend (assuming weather is good) I'll finally get this thing up, good, bad or ugly I'll post the video.

OOHH if you buy this from AK models, their support exceeds most ( But I also see Nitro Models is trying to work to undo the bad rep they have gotten, maybe they have seen the "Good customer support" light come on )

It is us the people that spend good money from what we buy and word of mouth can hurt a company so badly, i do alot of bussiness with central hobbies, there is no waiting, they take care of me as if i owned part of the company and when i send an engine in to be fixed i have it back within a week or less and they are so good with there warentee work, great planes there prducts and packing just put such a smile on my face and there are many others that do good business as well and it is nice of the people that do have problem to let us know, my friend bought a yak 54 from great planes and it blew up within a short distance of take off, he got a new airplane, he is also a professional builder now that is good bussiness, i had a problem with a plane i bought from hangar nine, they sent me a knew plane, i have spent thousands of dollars like most into the hobby, why would we lie about something after spending all that money and only having one or a few problems, they are good companies to deal with and some not so good to deal with, i was going to order a cub from nitro, i changed my mind.

Hey All

I found the power set up[:D] in the 2nd segment of the video you'll see I'm pulling almost 1.400 watts at almost 15 pounds thrust with a pitch speed of 60 Mph using a 18X10.

The maiden will be next weekend and OOHH the AUW is 9 lb 14 oz. I should have ALL the panic power in the world.
