HEY All Blade'rs

Just curious on what techniques you use for blade balancing and why.

What tools do you use?

What blades do you use?

Any personally recommended set -up tips that arent on this site already or on bladecprepair.com?

Thanx,

Crash

I use a Heli-Max Blade Balancers, it runs about $25 bucks. It made a total differenct in head vibration for me. Now at spin up, it's totally smooth. It only takes about 5 minutes or so to balance blades with the correct CG. I have a Blade CP and use flat bottom blades currently. Go with the recommended blades, if your new at this.

What do you use to put them in balance, do you shave a little off, or add some counterweight, if so, what? I generally just leave them alone, therfore the head vibrates like hell, and probably is a reason for some of it's instablility. Thanks.

I use CA glue or scotchtape if they are tattered.

CA glue is great. you put a drop on the light side, let it dry, hten another drop, then if it is too much, I put a drop on the other side. it usually doesn't take much to get them in balance. It's not as hard as airplane props.

I second the reccomendation for the heli-max balancer. I use it on my raptor, and it works great!!!!!

I have a piece of piano wire that just fit the hole on the blade grips. I put both blades together, oppposite each other like they are on the copter. I put the wire thru the hoes in both grips and a servo grommet on each side of that. Now put on a wheel colar on each side and tighten the whole thing up and both blades will be together at the grips, one sticcking out to your left and one to your right. Squeeze the colars together as you tighten to hold the blades tight in the center!!! Now make something to set the wire in the middle on and use tape to balance. 2 credit cards sitting on end spaced about 1 inch apart works well. I made 1/32 ply credit cards and used a piece of balsa to space them. works great for me

Best method is to balance whole assembly. Just loosen the coller on the main shaft and slide the main gear down until it disengages from the main motor. Then, turn heli and balance the entire assemlby. This is optimal, if you just balance the blades separate it will never be as smooth as if you balance the whole main shaft/head/blade assembly. I check it at 90 degree increments and slide the fly bar to balance it and balance the blades usually by adding scotch tape to the light one.
