Default When lightning strikes!

I haven't been able to fly all week, just to busy. Tonight I had time but there was rain in the forecast. I thought I could make it up to the field and get a flight in before the rain came. I only took my Sig Wonder knowing that it would only be a quick outing. I got to the field and there was a few rain drops barely a sprinkle and no wind at all. I got her up in the air quick and made a few circuits around the field... Then it happened! A huge bolt of lightning went across the sky! The thunder cracked almost immediately after! I said holy S#!*! I got to get this thing down and get out of here!!! But my plane had other plans. There was no response to the sticks. Seems the lightning had messed with the radio. I was banking left at full throttle at the time and thats were it was stuck... It went straght in at full speed, the engine was 8 inches deep in the dirt. The plane is a total loss, the engine (os 15 cv-a) seems ok after I cleaned it up. It will need a new back plate and remote needle valve ($11).

Here's a few pics...

The EM pulse from lightning can last for several seconds. Just try listening to your AM radio during a thunderstorm. Our transmitters, being FM should be more resistant, but it clearly doesn't take long for the plane to end up in the dumptser. Sorry about the loss. Obviously an opportunity to practice your rebuilding skills.

Sorry for your loss guys, it looks like both of you were in early flight when you crashed from looking at the fuel tank levels... All you needed was a string and a key and you could of rediscovered electricity! he he he. Good luck with a replacment plane...

Ouch, sorry you lost the plane.

I guess it's better though then the alternative. You are holding quite the lightning rod in your hands as you fly.[X(]
