Hello gang,

It was a pleasant surprise to have the Discovery channel’s, MythBusters visiting Century Helicopters HQ this morning. The TV show, MythBusters are trying to solve a myth whither or not a postage stamp adhered to the main rotor blade of a real helicopter would change the tracking of the blade? Myth or Bust?

Oh, and I would guess that the postage stamp (if you could get it to stay attached) would change the tracking of a real heli - but by such a small amount to be insignificant. "Busted!"

damn it! i wish sum1 at centuary heli recommended them to try and do the 'can a RC helicopter cut a persons head off' debate/myth.

for a 14yr old i love the show mythbusters and so do my friends. i watch mythbusters every Monday at 8:00pm on SBS (an aussie channel which has global programs)

well if a bit of sticky tape left flapping about on the blade doesn't change the tracking for me, then theres not much chance for a stamp.

I agree with Mr. Thompson, I hate when the non-hobby public appreciates crashes with respect to just destroying something.

That was a great episode, but it's a real shame they destroyed such a nice heli! (especially since it provided no meaningful data on exactly how much weight was necessary to destabilize the heli). Oh well...still a great show, though!

Well, let's be honest here. I think most of us like to see crashes, just not of our own models! . Being in the hobby, we have a better understanding on what exactly crashing means (hurt pride, hurt wallet) than the general public does, so we can sympathize when a fellow modeler plants his ship. Nonetheless, especially as humans, we tend to be horrified and enthralled by destruction all at the same time. Destroying things is a sure fire way to get your ratings up and people interested. Is it any surprise that the most popular mythbusters episode is the one where they blow up that cement truck? Or the way people only watch nascar hoping that they see a 50 car pileup?

Just about any show that involves smashing things or blowing things up is almost guarenteed to get a good viewer base. Sad? Maybe, but you'd be a fool to try and fight your own inherent nature.

Crashing models sucks for the people involved and the ammount of time and skill invested that gets destroyed, but watching them go down and tear them selves to pieces is always entertaining!
Just like watching those skaters doing their grinding tricks on hand rails and then slipping and ending up with the railing between their legs. Sucks to be the skater, but man, is it funny to watch. So, so funny..

Saw the show. They should have just put the stamp on the model and tried to bust the myth. Even a Blade CP will fly with a stamp on the main blade. It was precious watching them trying to fly the heli, like you just take it out of the box and fly!

I remember in one episode one of the guys on that show made an R/C shoe for Nike, and i could recognize an IntelliSpeed ESC in the shoe... Maybe he has yet to make a brushless one for even more extreme shoe commercials.

A Blade CX will fly with half of two of the blades torn off.

Getting hit by an upside-down flying lawnmower traveling at 50 mph is known to be somewhat painful, blade tips and shrapnel could puncture internal organs and it might blind you, slice off your fingers, nose, ears and stab and slice you up really bad, Yeah well I'd say it could kill you if it sliced your neck or punctured vital organs. Or if you were flying alone and bled to death before help arrived. DEATH BY HELI, a pretty gruesome topic.

And Credence I totally agree with what you said, that was the answer I was looking for.
