Great work guys. Total respect for a great kit bash and one I would love to do.
One thing really gets me with this kit though and that is the shape of the rear side window. The shape is just wrong I reckon. The bottom curves up too much compared to the top curving down. It should be more symmetrical I think as per this side view.

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t56181.html

With the work you guys are doing on this bird it would be an achievable fix.

This thread has me thinking about a P40!

Cheers,

Brad

I bought 5 different props (2 and 3 blades) from Hobby City and the 4.75" spinner today. The new plan: use a "standard" 4.5" spinner (nylon or the FG I bought) on a 2-blade light prop. Once I feel comfortable with this airplane and get a sense to what the electrical behavior needs to be on the appropriate propI will start experimenting with the CF spinner and 3-blade props.

ysolomon,

That's a great price!

Where is the model offered for 177.00? Shipping included??

See the following (http://www.nitroplanes.com/susacmpmop40.html)from Nitroplanes. This is exactly what I ordered, and where I ordered it from. Shipping was another $28.95. It's a big box, but it was shipped from Los Angeles, so it arrived very quickly.

Thanks for that!

Would my Moki 1.8 be to much power for this bird? I have a 2.1 Moki also.

I payed $41.49 for shipping, It took 7 days to get here, But I am now the proud Father of a CMP P-40,140. Packaging was outstanding, Hardware pkg. has a whole bunch of stuff! Does anyone use the anodized low vibration engine mount supplied?  The construction looks to be neat, clean and strong. The fit and FINISH are nearly perfect other then the Dash decal being crooked. I am a little disappointed with Finish, It looks like it just rolled out of   Curtis's factory ! The weather'd grunge look is what caught my eye at NP's website, It even has that same photo on the box.... No The DAMN THING IS PERFECT!! Where's The Grunge!! For that I give 4 instead of 5 stars. This is my first arf, up till know its been all kits and scratch builds. I have never worked with fiber glass, And I would like to know HTF does tahustvedt get those laser cuts on his tail gear hatches!  The exhaust  louver's on the chin are going to be relocated to a more scale location in front of the LE of the wing, and I'm going to open up the exhaust plenum for better air flow over what I hope to be a Evolution 40GX Gasser, a bit over kill but I figure it will get me close to a 20 inch 3 blade prop. The supplied retract inserts probably will end up being donors at best because 3 inch wheels just look stupid to me on this plane and she's getting retracts.Flaps too! Never had flaps before, is it one servo per? now Im out of channels, guess The sliding canopy  will have to be manual to access the power switch. The insets on the cowl are too small and wont except the brass tubes for the simulated exhaust pipes.  I'm considering building a header with 6 or maybe 12 semi scale outlets, Kinda the reverse of my old 225 slant six exhaust manifold  in the old Plymouth. heh

I am sure what a the 1.8 puts out in power but this plane fly great on a 120 to 180 4 stroke .There very light , unless you make mods to them .

If you look at the last picture on the Nitroplanes website where the parts are laid out it shows the plane without the weathering detail. I agree, it's a bit misleading based on all the other pictures. However, you can easily do all the weathering detail yourself. Check out the thread titled "For the in-service look" for instructions and ideas.

3" wheels don't look correct, so,

What size wheel should be used??

Earlier in this thread tahustvedt said 4-1/2" wheels would be closest to scale. problem is the ribs are only 4" apart, I think thats part of why he moved the gear inboard, Instead of modifying 2 ribs to fit the larger wheels in the original positions, he only had to modify one. I plan on shifting the gear inboard just enough to clear the fifth rib, with a 1/2" to 3/4" offset box in  fourth rib probably. 4" wheels for mine.

I'm also thinking 4-4.5" wheels to look more scale. I plan on leaving it in the original location, and will modify those two ribs on each side. With the speakers under the wingI will not have the option of getting the gear closer to the fuselage.

I've relocated my chin flaps to a more scale location for imo better appearance and air flow through the exhaust plenum.

I blew of the exhaust for now, But here's what I've got so far...I went with the Century Jets pnumatic retracts and I'm leaning toward the Evolution 40 GX  for power, Maybe a little bit of overkill, But should be alot of fun!!

OK, I'm not mad at you for that!

Did you get the July one? Because, even back in July they were out of stock. Pay extra for shipping?

I think I ordered around July 1. Shipping was $40 to Michigan.

I wonder if Nitro Planes is getting out of the fuel plane business. Just about every "Nitro Warbird" they sell is out of stock.

I don't think so. My guess is Nitro Planes just sells a whole bunch of Warbirds.

There's a lot of guys out there that like Warbirds.

I need the box, only reason I need to get rid of one of these.

Charles
