I know I've seen all the disjointed and at times contradictory information, but can anyone shed light for sure on the following by the fact you own one?

1) Do the S&S versions have a metal gear box or plastic?

2) Do all S&S versions have the 10 speed tranny that in essence, mimics a speed control? Some of the S&S versions listed still say 2 forward speeds - very confusing. The Panther on mato for example, states this.

3) Are all the S&S versions basically the same or are there quality issues between the types (Panther, Tiger, Pershing)?

4) Can you ask for a camo version rather than the gray tiger and how readily is it available and from whom? I want to add to the camo painted version then simply weather the tank after details.

5) Has anyone put together a guide on additional heat sink installation or specific trouble areas to spend some preventive maintenance on? I understand the boards can be damaged rather easily as some of you have stated. I also must state I read Grain's review but wondered had their been an update or what others have experienced.

6) Are the metal gears more of a strain on the board itself? One RC tanker had indicated that he felt this was the reason the board burned up.

7) Can you get additional boards rather easily?

8) How good are the tracks and are the metal upgrades worth it? They seem to cost as much as the entire model itself.

9) How easy is it to get parts and who is the best supplier?

10) Lastly, what are the trouble areas on this tank - S&S version peferably and to a lesser extent the entire HL line.

Thanks for your patience and as always, thanks in advance for the great information.

I know I've seen all the disjointed and at times contradictory information, but can anyone shed light for sure on the following by the fact you own one? I have owned two; Pershing (Snow Leopard) and Tiger 1.

1) Do the S&S versions have a metal gear box or plastic? NO. Although there are some on Ebay from time to time that have metal upgrades included with the tank, but not installed. CORRECTION: I found two without really looking that have metal gear upgrades:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-1-16-R-C-S-S-Pershing-M26-Tank-Super-Version_W0QQitemZ6060655994QQcategoryZ44026QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-16-R-C-Panther-Tank-Super-Version_W0QQitemZ6060845054QQcategoryZ44026QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

2) Do all S&S versions have the 10 speed tranny that in essence, mimics a speed control? Some of the S&S versions listed still say 2 forward speeds - very confusing. The Panther on mato for example, states this. NO. If it does not state that it has 10 speeds, I would not count on it....that would be a big selling point to mention in the item description.

3) Are all the S&S versions basically the same or are there quality issues between the types (Panther, Tiger, Pershing)? In my experience, they are all the same electronically, but some are more accurate models than others.

4) Can you ask for a camo version rather than the gray tiger and how readily is it available and from whom? I want to add to the camo painted version then simply weather the tank after details. You may have to contact the seller to be sure if it is not stated in the description. The one that I bought showed the gray version in the picture, but I received the camo version.

5) Has anyone put together a guide on additional heat sink installation or specific trouble areas to spend some preventive maintenance on? I understand the boards can be damaged rather easily as some of you have stated. I also must state I read Grain's review but wondered had their been an update or what others have experienced. I have seen additional transistors/resistors in posts, but I don't know when or where. You might search through some old threads.

6) Are the metal gears more of a strain on the board itself? One RC tanker had indicated that he felt this was the reason the board burned up. Many people run metal tracks without problems, but it is a good idea to upgrade to metal gears at the same time.

7) Can you get additional boards rather easily? MATO TOYS sells just about every part that you need either on Ebay or through their on-line store, including the electronics. You may have to contact them with a list of the specific parts that you want in order to get them.

8) How good are the tracks and are the metal upgrades worth it? They seem to cost as much as the entire model itself. I have a set of HL (they may not be made BY HL, but they are marketed FOR HL) metal tracks on my Tamiya Sherman and they are great! I highly recommend metal tracks and the HL version are considerably cheaper than other brands.

9) How easy is it to get parts and who is the best supplier? I have only done business with MATO TOYS, but there are others. Someone else will have to chime in to give you other vendors names.

10) Lastly, what are the trouble areas on this tank - S&S version peferably and to a lesser extent the entire HL line. The transmitter is cheap, but they work. The smoke system seems to overload the electronics, but not in all cases. The air soft gun may or may not have much power and accuracy...it is the luck of the draw. Scale model accuracy is a point for WWII armor fans as many of the aspects of the HL tanks are designed with incorrect features

Thanks for your patience and as always, thanks in advance for the great information.

I hope this helps a bit.

Jason
