The Rusty is about a pound heavier than a race truck. You should run LiPo batteries to lighten it up. In fact, do whatever you can to lighten it up. Drill holes in the chassis, whatever you have to do. Also, get some AE or Losi shocks. I would also get some hinge pins and ditch those screw pins that come with it. With these and other suggestions, you should have a nice running Rustler. Next, take it to the track and get your A$$ handed to you by the Losi's and Associated's. A Rustler will NEVER be race worthy.

I highly reccomend you go the deans route with this project, even though the car itself may not be as competitive as losis and associateds I think the project will be a lot of fun and if you are a skilled enough driver you can smoke em! Good luck!

for sure, I would've gone with a GTB 4.5, ball diff, losi shocks/springs. Make sure you drill those holes in the chassis, the lighter the better. if you go lipo you already know to get a LVC or you will blow up those packs. I'm curious you as to why you didn't get SxS packs, but you can convert them just as easy to SxS.

curious what is the weight of the rustler vs the stampede?

you might want to check out the carbon fiber chassis for the rustler/stampede, they are super light, and not near as expensive as aluminum. with aluminum you get that damned glitching problem, and carbon fiber you dont have that

good luck keep us all posted!

Hey can I jump in here?

Sounds like you've got a pretty interesting project going on.... I'm anxious to see how it turns out. And IMO you should run li-pos like happywinng reccomended. Waaaay more runtime, and will make it faster.

i agreee that it is a interesting project. personally i feel that the only way it will beat the race trucks will be based upon driver skill.
if you put any rustler in the hands of a pro and then put a losi/ae in that same pros hands....the true race trucks will win.
like i said though, i do like to see someone take something and do something it wasnt really ment to do.

Theres no wya to make a rustler really "race worthy".You can get it to go really fast but thats about it.Cuase the whole suspension and geomatry of th e truck just sint that good.If you cant plant the power, your not going anywhere...But I like the idea and its probly going to be a really sweet....tank?lol

I pretty much completely disagree with you!

Anyways, here's how is sits so far, NOT done yet, some of the listed parts are not on the truck yet

RPM Front rear hub carriers/steering blocks
Stainless ball bearings added EVERYWHERE, No bushings to be seen on this truck
stainless steel hinge pins, ridded the stock screw peices of junk
Traxxas Carbon hinge pin brace
Traxxas carbon front shock tower
Steel idler gear, derlin w/e gear
RPM gear cover
Losi 32.5 silcon shock oil
MIP CVD's

Hs-5925mg Killer servo, with custom top plate for beefy servo saver
Starting with the ss5800 8.5 turn motor, but have the 6.5R and 5.5R to try also
Novak GTB speed controller = Sweetness
Starting with the intelletec 4200mah NIHM, but have the team Orion 4800mah lipoly comming

Thats for now, next i need to find a good set of titanium turnbuckles to rid those non-adjustable plastics.....

well my son has a rustler that i would put up against anybodys electric car right now it has all adjustable toe and camber front in the rear i have added another 1.5 degrees of toe with tec 4 hubs i have put bearings in the axel carriers and balanced the wheels put in a set of cvd 's i have also installed the novak xxtra reciver along with the novak brushless 4.5 with novak matched batteries the only problem is keeping the front tires on the ground rustlers are fast if you want them to be

You guys abviosly dont race.(Back yard with the pet dog doesnt count). Its just a fact the rustler just cannot turn, jump, stop, accelerate as a real race kit.Its just FACT.It has horrible suspension mounting posistions, horrible arm/chassie design. You can run it, dont get me wrong.Just going to make it that much harder to keep up the pace.Oh and not to mention its the most un consistant and un gearable car known to man.Its weight ditributuon its also the worst. Its kinda like trying to pimp a mini-van with a flow master, 20inch spinners, and a sound sytem and cuase its blinged you tyhink it ready to run with a stock car. Those truck were not designed to race.Losi and AE use race tracks to test car (witch take a very long to to get the design right BTW).Traxxas used a window on a 3 storyhouse when designing the rustler.Whatever though you guys are the Factory novice guys....l..

So it's fast... so what try turning that thing at wide open throttle... it will roll over
