There is nothing on your list that will make your rustler race worthy. About all you will have is top speed. But if you try to put that vehicle on a race track, you will get smoked by the Associated and Losi trucks.

Lets take a 2nd look at your parts:

1. RPM Front rear hub carriers/steering blocks
What is this for, to aide in the event in a wreck? For sure this isn't gonna make your truck handle better.

2. Stainless ball bearings added EVERYWHERE, No bushings to be seen on this truck
How will this help your handling problems, it will help to make it more effecient.

3. stainless steel hinge pins, ridded the stock screw peices of junk
Again, no handling benefit.

Traxxas Carbon hinge pin brace
no handling benefit, its stock replacement for crying out loud.

Traxxas carbon front shock tower
aide in bashing, what this truck is really made for.

4. Steel idler gear, derlin w/e gear
any handling benefit? NONE!

5. RPM gear cover
YAY!

6. Losi 32.5 silcon shock oil
Put this in and your rusty is gonna drive like a tank, even less turning!

MIP CVD's
Good for the drivetrain, thats about it.

Basically this all boils down is that you want to make a super fast, tough, rustler. But seriously do not call it a 'race rustler' as this truck cannot even compete against a losi or associated. Don't believe me? Then head to your local track. I have seen plenty of rustlers at the track and I have yet to see one win an A-Main.

lol, first off the truck isnt anywhere near done, and am going by your list

1. Installed so i can get rid of the 5x8 bushings, rpm carries allow use of 5x11 bearings, and wasnt planning on making it handle better from carriers

2. You hit it on the nail, more efficient, also am not expecting better handling from bearings

3. Easier to work with and smoother, again, lots of parts im adding arent aiding to handling yet, "Why did you put that servo saver on it? Not going to help handling!!!!" <-What u sound like^^

4. Needs this from the power output of the 8.5t and 6.5t motors im using, thanks for reminding me GEARS wont help with handling, i really didnt kno all by myself

5. the only useful thing you said! cuz thats true at least. YAY is about it!

All in all i guess its people like you that inspired me to give this a go! But for me its fun doing this kinds of stuff!

Hey DMehalko(DM) i think what your doing is class keep up the good work

Im in the same boat as you - i could have bought a rc18mt or mini lst but i got the mini madness - sure i could put £300 into it and it would be slower than a rc18mt with £50 in it but i think thats all part of the fun - ino alot of people dont get my logic but hey!!!

After looking at this thread and thinking if the title was not "Project: Race Rustler" there would not be one thing said negative about what is being done to the truck. Everything that has been done are things thaat have been told by lots of people to do so it will last longer and not break. So up to this point what has been done is normal for a rustler owner to do anyway. yes bearings and carriers in the front and rear will help in racing by the way. They will remove lost play and decrease rolling resistance both of which are bad. You do NOT want play inthe steering if or when racing for sure. Keep up the good work and show us the pictures as you continue the project.

Thanks

Honestly, there is not any bashing going on here. There is a lot of fact stating and for good reasons. It's not a truck built for the track.

I am quite sure when he is done, this will be one FAST Rustler, but it's still not meant to turn left and right and it still isn't going to do it well. Sure, maybe if you throw a lot of Mugen, Losi, or AE parts on it then yes it may do it a bit better but you are still trying to make somethnig do what it wasn't intended to or has the ability to. It's not hate, it's a simple statement of fact.

No one accused you of being new to the hobby anywhere in this thread, there were just a lot of statements from guys who have already tried this sort of thing and learned. If you were to start out with a truck designed to do this, all you would have bought would have been the motor/esc and servo's and it would have been ready to roll and handled better than this will with twice the money.

I agree tottaly with the guy who said if this had started out project "uber fast" Rustler there would not have been one negative comment.

guys don't you get the idea? He doesn't want a losi or associated, he wants a fun project that he thinks will be able to teach some racers at the track a thing or two. Sure it might not win the a-main but it'll be fun for him and that's what he wants! Of course he could've just bought a race car but the whole fun for him comes from building his own creation. At leasts that's what it seems like... I'm being a spokesperson for DM! lol

I think what you are doing is awesome, building a race rustler. Its gonna be alot of fun. Don't listen to the snobs on here saying you can't keep up. To all you snobs: He wants to build it, he is gonna build it, he wants to have fun and I bet he doesn't care if he can't keep up. Have fun and I want to do it too to prove everyone wrong. Have fun and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I'm seeing the same thing in this forum that I see in just about every other one: EGO! I can't understand the unbridled criticism of so many on this guy's project. Tasteful advice and constructive criticism is great, but I haven't seen too much of that. Nothing about DM even hints that he doesn't know what he's doing, so let him do his thing and we'll all see what happens. However, just about every post against this project leaves me with the impression that the author knows all (or thinks he knows all). I'm optimistic here about the possibilities. Is it going to be more expensive this way? Of course, because his objective isn't to save money but to take a truck made for ordinary man and make it extraordinary, inspiring men and women across the world to do great things (maybe a little sarcasm there)! Am I right?

I think as long as he keeps up the work the way he has to this point it will be a great race truck. He seems as though he is not new to this and just wants to race something that is not supposed to be that great according to some an may be trying to prove a point. As we all know by now racing is a lot of luck and driver skill more than the vehicle even in the real world.

Thanks

It would make a great drag racer, but as for an actual dirt track I think it's handling just wouldnt allow it to keep up with Losi's and AE's.

Inverted, What did the last 3 of us say, if he wants to, let him. Who knows maybe he'll make the sweetest rustler ever and whup the losis and aes(which i would like to see happen). So have fun DM and I can't wait to see the final turnout.

Hey thanks for the kind words guys!

Let me start this off by saying i far well know what the rustler was designed to do, and i also kno the T4's and the xxx-t's are amazing vehicles, but am doing all this for more a personal curiosity inside my head than anything. Almost eveyone has said the Rustler cannot race and no matter what will loose horribly to an AE or Losi truck. Doin this to try and show people otherwise!

So i guess all in all its a personal satisfaction thing for me.

More pics soon /w updates!!

Not even close. My current race truck will have less in it that he has in that one. It has nothing to do with what he is spending because he is spending more than I do I can promise you.

It will be FAST in a straight line, very fast. I just don't see it handling like a purebred racer and that's it. You can call it snobbiness, you can call it ego, you can call it whatever. I like to call it experience. I have owned more than 50 RC's that were raced so I know more than a little bit about this. I have tried to race things like the rusty back in the day when it came out thinking "oh it's stock truck, I can keep up". Yeah, right lol. I learned the hard way.
