Hi all you tankers
these two tanks are hl, snigger so the list begins metal gearboxes tracks and wheels, hand made brass hatches mudguards and battle damaged side skirts, some handmade cammo net from an old linnen basket and all airbrushed with a machine mart brush using humbrol enamels, i forgot all the wheels are on brass suspention arms and all bushed so no wobbly wheels, the so called snow leapard is more or less the same spec.
Dont let all these tamaya boys put you off hl tanks , they are cheap and easy to build and very easy to upgrade, all is needed is time and a few £s.
My tiger has done 40 hours plus running time never had a days bother exept for the odd broken track link.
I woud put my hl tanks against any tamaya, after all 1.5mm brass will rip tamayas to bits.
My new project i finnished today and is also an hl panther so some pics on the way later.
Dont let anyone tell you hl tanks are crap they are not they just need some bits n bobs adding.
A tank is a tank and is only as good as you make them no matter what make.
Have fun tankers

Your tanks look great, wish I had the patience to upgrade as much as you did on those models! The barrel treatments especially.

To answer your question, yes Tamiyas are really that good.

I will have to say that my Radio Shack M1A1 is the most durable and faultless RC tank I have ever experienced, even more so than Tamiya!

Very nice tanks djdezre. It goes to show a well sorted HL can look as good as a Tamiya with some effort. You can also be proud of the work you have done to get them to this standard, regardless of manufacturer. Seeing tanks like this and then finding out how much less something like this costs than say 5 years ago will only encourage more folks to get into the hobby. Who knows, more folks buying may mean cheaper Tamiyas - then we can all get one to keep our HL tanks company

They look great - period. Can you take some more pictures from the side and of the upgrades you did. They are really quite impressive and motivates the heck out of me just seeing them. Some cannot compliment without the need to give that "little jab" as an addendum. Where did you get your tiger from and was it gray in the box? How hard or easy was it to get all the acessories off? Where did you get those oil barrels on the Pershing? You should recieve a sales commision from Heng Long because your pictures will sell several tanks for them.

erm belive it or not the oil drums came from a kiddys skate board playset my wife bought for my younger son i was so impressed i popped down the shop and bought another set which has 8 drums in the pack, bit of paint some weathering and hey presto, all the tanks came from germany via ebay and i paid around £35 for each on bids, the tiger was in yellow,
thanks for all your feedback you guys, good feedback as i am sure you will all agree gives you the motivation to do these upgrades, i love tanks and i love to use them and i have to say i have been well motivated from this forum, i do want to own a tamaya and in time i am sure i will and i will upgrade it.
lets hope hl bring out a 1/16 sherman that would be nice to have a bash at.

Nice looking armor, D. The Pershing is stunning and the weathering on both is great. All those added extras on the tanks make them look lived on.

BTW, We now have a new catagory of RC tanking. 'Bumper Tanks'

*places inner tube around Tamiya*

Hey D,

Is that the same Tiger that is in your gallery? I think I remember it from a while back.

Hey, I'll take that challenge, DJ! Any scratches that your tanks can deliver will be welcome battle damage and character to mine. Just be prepared to be scathed in return.

Between, metal tracks, barrels, chains, handles, covers and cables, I bet I have as much metal on one tank as you have on both of yours put together, brass and all. I love to throw that weight around on the battlefield, so enemy and ally beware. There's nothing like metal to make a tank feel more tankish, is there?!!

Good Work, by the way! Your tanks both look great.

Jason

Well, that may not be true since I just found out that you have made and installed metal wheels, too. I would love to see some close-up pictures of your work.

Let me tell you a story. Five years ago, I bought a Tamiya Pershing from an experienced modeler and tanker. It served me well. One day, the turret would only rotate to the right, but everything else worked perfectly. I sent the DMD module to Tamiya USA, where Gary Demory immediately sent a replacement unit free of charge, no questions asked. No paperwork and fussing about receipts and warranties. I don't think there's any company that would offer such excellent customer service and confidently stand by their products. Tamiya, based on my experience, believes in their products like no other!! Guys, if you're considering getting a 1/16 tank, it's worth the money to get a Tamiya. Their service is better than their products, which are superb to begin with. Thank you Tamiya USA and Gary Demory for my new replacement Pershing DMD!!
