Status: offline 		I've 'inherited' a Coverite Peashooter kit, about .40 size. It looks to be all there, with lots of plastic for spats, turtledeck etc.

Anyone built one of these? How did it fly?

Status: offline 		I got plans for this plane from MAN about 6 years ago. I was wanting to do a 40 size sport plane recently when I remembered the old plans. I pulled them out last week and made a bill of materials for the wood. Came out to $37. LOL that's a lot better than the big project I'm wanting to start! Looks to be a real easy build so I'll let you how mine comes out.

I see you posted this month ago. Did you build and fly yours?

Status: offline 		Mine is coming along nicely. I have the wing framed and sheeted. I knocked out the tail section yesterday in 30 mins! That was with a redesign of the horizontal tail also. I didn't like the looks of it. I made it more rounded and 30ish looking rather than the WW1 look the plans have. I tried that technique of tracing a patter on tracing paper and then lightly spray some 3M artist adhesive on it then cutting and sanding the part to the line on the paper. The artist adhesive pulls right off and leaves no residue on the wood. I couldn't believe how well the parts came out and how fast I did it.

I trying to figure out the turtle deck now. The pans have 4 fuse formers and number 4 in about mid ship so there is nothing to hold the 1/8 sheeting to shape from mid ship to the tail. I'm tempted to just glue on a 1/2" plank and sand it to shape!

Status: offline 		Well I knocked this plane out really fast. Only Four months.

Here she is. I changed the tail and wingtips. She's fully sheeted and painted. I made the wheelpants myself out of balsa. Got a Saito 56 spining a Dynathrust 12x6 prop. She came out at 6.3 pounds.

Status: offline 		I built one of the .40 size from plans when they first came out..and still have it. A nice airplane but for some reason it does not like to do an outside loop. Everything else is nice.

My friend had the plans blown up and built it as a .60 size and it really blossomed into a super nice airplane. It flys WAY better than my .40 size. If you are going to build from plans by all means make it a .60 size. The .60 size made a great float plane also, water and snow both.

Status: offline 		Well, I crashed, "I mean I had radio problems", The Peashooter in the top of a big tree on the maiden flight. Now I got to find me a monkey to climb up a 75 foot tree and get what's left of it.

Status: offline 		I took it off and was trining it out. I think the elevator conection broke becuse evey time I'd put in up elevator she'd go into a spin to the left, wich is the side with the control rod.

Plane is still up there.

Status: offline 		This was my second airplane 20+ yeas ago. I kept it all these years and am thinking about recovering it because it was such a fun plane to mess around with. The cowl suffered a sad fate years ago so I am looking for one.

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement?

Well I pulled the dusty old plans out and I'm ready to build another one.

Hopefully I can do this one faster than four months and keep the new one out of trees.

Status: offline 		I scanned the thread and thought I would see a nice scale Peashooter, then I realized it was a sport plane.. and the thread was nearly 10 years old ! this one got dusted off the back shelf ..I hope that new plane gets done in 3 months and 28 days.. for the new record time !

Status: offline 		I am building a Peashooter as we speak with my 11 year old son. He already bought the engine - an O.S. Max .46SF. My favorite engine due to awesome power, fuel consumption and super easy starts.

I built one back in high school (early 90's) and it was a sweet flier. Henry Haffke knows what he is doing when it comes to model plane designing.

Amazing how easy it is to build and on top of that a great flier. It handles great in the air - smooth and forgiving. Of course it is a sport model, so I could see why it would not handle an outside loop too well.

Some easy mod's to the wing would probably help - fully symmetrical airfoil, no dihedral, larger ailerons, etc.

Hoping to finish up our Peashooter in the next month or two. Wing is about done, horizontal / vertical tail are done with us currently working on the fuselage.

Can't wait to get onto the wheel pants... always fun to sand into shape.

Hey av8rsodt,

On those wheel pants. MAN had a really neat tip in this months mag. You mount two magnets on a plate each side of the tire. Then a matching four inside the pants. If you go down in the scrub the pants will just pop off damage free or if the grass run way is over grown you can just take them off to fly, then pop them back on later.

I'll be doing this on mine!

Status: offline 		Yeah, that must have been one of the first times I used them.

I'm going to use them again on the new plane but I'm going to try something new. I'm going to incase them in balsa boxes. Should look like a big match sick with a hinge in the middle. The ribs and tail feathers will have slots built in to accept the boxes. Then after the model is finished I can just glue and slide the boxes into place perfectly aligned and with 100% contact in the glue joint.

Built up hinges look great but are a pain to pin, point hinges are easy but you lose some looks when you drill the hole and if the leading edge is recessed you have a chance of one of them getting misaligned when the point is pushed in. I had one point hinge that would creak on the rudder of my Giant Sweet'n Low Stick.

Hoping to combine the two without ending up with something not quite as good as either.

Funny that you ask. I took my son to Panera the other day so we could figure out a color scheme over a bagel and coffee. The coffee being for me

We have narrowed it down to an opaque / transparent scheme, possibly opaque red w/ transparent blue or green.

Starting to get fun as we see the progress and get closer. We will be sure to post some pics.

Great idea on the wheel pants, as they can get a little tricky to adjust and clean.
