It makes sense for them to ask for the gas engine in the review. I just got the new Horizon mail catalog and they are pushing the gas engine for their 60 size models.

I balanced mine last night. It looks like I am going to need 1.5 oz of lead in the tail. I still have not got a pilot figure but that shouldn't make much difference.

Edit.. I am nose heavy because I am running the G20 engine. I will be flying it on Sunday.

So I pull mine out of the box and start looking at the engine mount. I'm going to put a OS61 glow in it. What the heck is this diagonally oriented engine mount. Just where am I suppose to find a muffler that is going to work with that setup?

Try Kelow Creations. I had Kelvin make a 24 stack scale exhaust for my Curtiss Hawk P6-E and tis a thing of beauty. Check out the P6-E build thread for samples of the system.

You can mount it inverted and use a Bisson inverted muffler with a single exhaust outlet that would point out the bottom of the cowl.

Hey Guys,
Just need to ask an important question. I am getting my H9 F6 next week, and I have to decide to go with a Saito 100 or 125. I know the debates between gas or glow, but I would really like one of these two pumps. Actually, if I can get my hands on a YS 110 I would, but I can not wait until Aug.

Received my Hellcat today. Thought I would post some pictures of the model right out of the box. I am really impressed with the Hangar 9 quality. I have most of there warbirds and the Hellcat is just as good if not better than the previous ones. I don't think the retracts are any better than the ones on the Corsair. I whish they would sit into the wells better. I measured the century jet retracts for the Hangar 9 Corsair and the struts are about one inch to short for the Hangar 9 Hellcat. I would like to install Sierra Percision retracts, but will try the stock retracts first. I will be installing a Saito 100 inverted with a Keleo Creations custom muffler. I will use a Graupner 14/7 three bladed prop with a Tru-Turn prop hub.I plan on using Robart diamond tread scale wheels. I have a Hangar 9 1/7 world war two pilot and will build my own instrument panel. The decal provided for the instrument panel is not acceptable to me. I hope you all enjoy this plane. I am sure it will be a sweet flyer. Enjoy.

I am using the Hitec 75bb retract servo. I had to use 3/4" spacing on the servo arm rather than the 1" the manuel recommends. The gear locks up and down and feels very secure. I am sure it will still have the wobble when taking off and landing. You will need a low profile retract servo to fit the stock installation.

How are you doing? This is Matt over here in Korea. I was wondering how long it would be before you got one and had it out to the field. If it turns out half as nice as your other planes I sure it will be a winner. So, you think the CJ H9 corsair retracts wont work in this one? When I get back I am taking all the mechanicals out of all my planes and start putting air sys. in them. Hope it turns great.

Hi Matt. Nice to hear from you. Hope all is going well. Miss seeing you out at the field. It has been real hot, so I do not stay out at the field very long. We have had a lot of wind recently which makes flying difficult. I am really happy with the Hellcat. It looks like a winner. Yes, the CJ retracts for the Corsair will not work in this plane. I would like to put in an air system, but am going to try these mechanicals out. Will probably change them out on my first landing due to gear failure. I will keep you posted on the build. Should have it ready by the first of July. Take care and be safe.

Good morning 716, a quick question, what stops the water from going into the wing on those cool dewy mornings on the H9 Hellcat? All other H9 warbirds have plastic liners in the wheel wells.

716, How big are the wheels? I have 3 1/2 inch robarts on my Brian Taylor (Holman Hellcat) Plans call for 4 inch I think but the wheels stick out too far in the wells so I went with those. I have modified a set of Spring Airs for it and may do that for the H-9. They seem real steady and don't have the slop that the cheapos do. I used the drag links and swivel plate and top end of the strut out of a set of Rhoms. Most ARFs don't have big enough wheels.

Looking at the cowel, how do our air cooled engines get any air? Does the dummy radial have cut outs in it? I can not tell from the pic. I'm trying to determine what will need to be done. Let me know what you figure out. It looks like you thought everything else out pretty well, although the Saito Expert lists a 14/8 or a 15/6.

I just cut out the cylinders in front of the head of the engine and leave the rest of the dummy to act as a baffle. Works very well here in Las Vegas with our high temperatures. This is a picture of my Hangar 9 P-47 dummy radial with a Saito 100.

The liners have not been installed yet. I had a picture of them on an earlier post. They can be glued,taped or screwed on. I will be screwing my on so they will be removeable for maintenance. I am sorry most of the liners were coverd in the earlier post by the black dummy radial. The plastic liners are gray in color.

716, You do it the same way I do. Just cut out the area in front of the engine so that all the air coming in has to pass around the head. I have a old (18 yrs) OS 90 four stroke that I have in a Brian Taylor Tempest. I have never had any problems with it overheating. Thanks for the wheel info. I like as large a wheel as I can use. Works much better on grass.
