On ALL my warbirds i like to have at least 100oz servos on all my control surfaces as follows:

1 for Rudder
1 for each aileron (2)
1 for each elev half (2)
and 1 for each wing flap (2)

1 standard for each engine and sometimes will use mini servos with 56 oz torque
Same thing for Pneumatic retract switches and other stuff that doesnt get high force.

Usually I use FMA servos because they are just as good as the rest at a fraction of the price. https://www.fmadirect.com/site/products.htm?cat=8

Dennis....As far as servo selection is concerned it involves several factors....Size of aircraft involved including wing loading and size of control surfaces.....Surface travel will also play into what works best.....I am in the ProfLooney camp...I like overkill and my warbird "Fleet" is in the 85" to 105" range as of now ....just finishing B-25 now....another week or so til completion....I use on Aileron/Elevators Fut 9202/9304 on the rudder use 1/4 scale servo s1304....except on B-25 each rudder has a 9304.....I use HiTech 625/645MG on the flaps.I use 6 volt battery pack for Rx so havent had any servo problems I know of....Bill..... Bill & Joe:

Thanks for the info. I never had to worry about servos in CL, but I got tired of going in circles. If you're goning to go, do it big!

Thanks for the nose glass offer. If Ziroli backorders for some reason I'll sure take you up on it. Very nice of you to offer.
I'll find out this next week if the parts are available as I will be contacting them very soon.
Good luck to all of you that are finishing up. Its very encouraging for sure! I plan to stay in touch to follow everyones adventure and mine will continue when time allows.
I've built two smaller models the last month or so and I have a few more projects to do before stopping all work for the B-25 repairs. Once I start on it, nothing else gets done. Is it only me???

RandyL, what wing incidence did you have built in compaired to the stab and engines? I ask because I did the prototype B25 for American Eagle(109in). When I got the wing together, I stuck it in the fuse and started taking measurements and incidence readings and found the wing to have 3.5 to 4degrees of positive incidence from the fuse datum line and stab. I know full size planes use these type figures, but not models which are much lighter and faster than full size in scale. I built the front of the wing saddle down to achieve 1 degree of positive incidence. Mine is 30lb with 38s and have about 25 flights now.

Lenny...On my "Z" ...B-25 the wing is 1 deg pos. and the stab is "0" per Nicks plans....I don't think you'd see 3 or 4 degrees on the real deal.......Nick was an Engnr for Grumman for years...next time I talk to him I'll find out more about that....Bill......

Lenny, I have follwed your B-25 project and read about it's flights at times. Sounds like an outstanding aircraft. I sure wanted to make the trip to Monaville this year to meet you guys and see some of the great airplanes. The trip was not to be this year however.
I did the same as Warbirdz, I built exactly as per Ziroli's plans on mine. I don't recall the exact degrees right now but I do know that I did not deviate any from the plans. I figured he has a lot of them flying and I'd better do it his way. Mine got banged up badly but I have already got the forward formers marked out for sawing and the new props are here as well as the then new glazing from Diane at Ziroli. I just need time...but a few small r/c projects will get finished first. I dabble with all size and types of r/c but down deep, I'm a WW2 buff with my B-17 being my absolute favorite. : )
Thanks for the offer again Warbirdz on the glass... The Ziroli crew took very good care of me again!

Randy

Mike,
Thank you for your excellent insight on the issues I have raised. I like your idea of mounting micro servos in the tails to eliminate deadband in the control surface. Could you mount them servos directly into the inboard side of the vertical stabilizer?.... Has anyone tried this?...

This one was done in large scale Wilga
The servos were installed inside the rudder.

So how about some updates! How is everyone's B-25's coming along? Number 2 is pretty much glassed and 3 is ready to glass. Work has been tough lately so progress has been slow.

I finished building the rib and spar construction. There was a mis-alignment between w-2 and w-5. I suspect that this occurred because the main-spar curled like an old leaf during construction. I was thinking lite, so I used lite plywood. Silly me. The next try will be with Baltic birch aircraft plywood. A little heavier, but I hope it is more stable. I want to have the center section done by the end of June, but threat status Orange hasn't helped.

I'm going over to Bob's Aircraft documentation this afternoon. I want to see what he's got.

The kit I ordered had 3/16" lite-ply firewalls. So, I am going to build a set of fire walls out of 400 NOMEX with carbon fiber sandwich construction. I went to E.V. Roberts for the resin matrix. It should withstand an elevated temperature of 450 - 500 degrees F.

I haven't started the fuselage yet, but I want to hear more about the servos in the tail-fin or horizontal stab. What size, linkage, etc.

If I get deployed, this project could take a long time.
