Could get expensive because you might need more than two here, but has anyone tried using Hitec HS-125MG's wing servos for the rudders? They're only 10mm thick...

Thumper, As you know, I used linkage to the rudders and a forward mounted servo. It took 2 times to get it correct. After the first attempt I found some slop in the setup. I changed brands of hardware and remounted things and was happy. The rear mounted servos would sure be easier but my despise of long wiring made me use the linkage setup as I did.
Are you planning of dual elevator servos? This was a "must" on my setup.

There is probably no way I could not use two servos for the elevator. I can look at the 1/4 scale servos in my P-47, one each for elevator and rudder and not think anything about it. But I am very uncomfortable with the thought of the same application using one standard size servo, even though they are coreless, metal geared, fully bearinged and put out close to the same torque.

Do any of you have a wood list for the 118"? I got the short kit from Laser Lizard and would now like to buy the needed additional wood.

Thanks,

Would you mind letting us know what brand of hardware you went to. I think I can figure out what brand you started with.

Randy and Bill:

I´m having a kind of same problem, so ,from my las two options I chose to use JR MATCHBOX and use two metal gears servos one for each elevator. With this system and extra battery pack you can be peace of mind for long wiring and back up. Also you are asking less current consumption from receiver and is easy to trim each servo individually.Same thing I´ll do for my rudders and nose gear, one channel from receiver to MB and three channels out from MB.

I have the alleviator function set up on my Ultimate Bipe, (That function allows the elevator half's to act like ailerons) Wonder if I could get a B-25 to roll as fast as my Smith Super Special fun fly plane????
On a more serious side, What is the lightest B-25 in existence? One of the giant scale war-bird builders in this neck of the woods tells me that my plane should come in at no more than 30 pounds.????? From reading the posts, that seems a little too light.
I have really been thinking about engines. You know, when it comes to power, some is good, more is better, and too much is just enough. Maybe the G-38's, with anti vibration mounts would be in order. Since this plane has got to fly, it would be nice to have a hefty power reserve. Comments, anyone,

Bill, at first check which one of Ziroli is your B-25. What I know he makes only two versions: 101" and 118" which is 18% blow out from 101. I think you have 101". If yes, Randy and Profloney are the right persons to help you.If Randy site there is almost everything you need.About engines, in my opinion G-38 is too big.
G-38 is for 118" version and as Nick Jr said to me G-45 is plenty of power and will fit better than G-38 inside cowl.
Mine has two 3W-50 which I find in a bargain sale, much much ligther and reliable than other engines, also will aloud me to use a SOLOPROPS system wit three blades variable pitch ant 22" dia, so I need something to move this sistem at the right RPMS.
Let me know if you have the big one, I have two G-45 brand new with accessories I can offer you ad reasonable price. One is offered a e-bay so you can take a look.

David.

B-25J

I am currently building a B-25J that will be pretty tricked out.
The big bomber is the 101" Ziroli model. This plane is glassed and will be finished in "Flite Metal" unless I get frustrated with all the cutting and sticking and go with paint and panel lines. I sometimes wish I had a couple of "Rosie Riveters" in short shorts and halter tops to help me out. Ha! Ha!

I am powering this bird with two Ryobi 31CC engines I believe this will be sufficient. I'm not too worried about "Engine Out" as I will just push the space bar and begin the flight over should this unhappy circumstance occur. Oh crap! I can't do that because I'll be flying at the field and not on the simulator. I have made many dead stick landings and hopefully this beast will get her beautiful nose down and glide like a Peregrine Falcon and not like a Looney Bird.

Oh well, enough of my ramblings. I have to be in the briefing room in half an hour and "Jimmy" (that's General Doolittle to you under classmen) doesn't like tardiness. He said something earlier about flying off a Flat Top...

Oh a B-25 is a beautiful bird
On land or in the air
The sound of her engines distinctly heard
on final, before she flairs

One look at her elegance
will take away any flyer's breath
With as many as eighteen .50 cals
She's a ****in' "Mistress of Death"

On the ground she can tell you stories
without ever whispering a word
In the air she will sing you a lullaby,
her twin radial engines heard

She'll take you there and bring you back
Out of the burning Wild Blue
Gracefully touching down, dancing on the runway
Another mission through

She stands out in a crowd,
let there be no mistake
She's bigger than a Mustang
and more heavily ladened than a P-38.

So be gentle on the sticks,
do not bully her around
or she may get angry and go engine out,
and take you to the ground!

Hey Gentlemen:

I finished the nosegear door, this weekend. I used the Robart 350 hinges and the throw took the full amount of the air cylinder. I mounted the hinges on a standoff piece of aircraft plywood that parallels the stringer on the starboard side of the door. Built-up the contour of the door with 5 layers of 3/32 inch thick balsa. The miniature door for the extended gear uses the small nylon hidden hinges. I'm using Hitec HS-55 servo for the air valves. One for the retracts and one for the Glennis brakes.

About the 22 inch diameter wheels. Scale for the 101" craft is 19.75 inches (1/8 scale). There may not be sufficient clearance from the centerline of the engine to the ground to use that large a prop, with 5.5" mains.

Randy:

I'm looking for suggestions on mounting the S-148 servo for the nose gear. Do you have pictures, or a diagram?? If yes....

See you at the field

When you do what you've always done,
You'll get what you've always gotten

He's Back!

I have installed the firewall mounts (1/2" - 7 ply Baltic Birch). I noticed the mounts were not really solid. I drilled 7/64 holes and installed dowel and epoxy strengtheners.

The Glennis Wheels and brakes are installed and tested. Class starts tomorrow, so I'll be able to finish the Carbon Fiber/NOMEX firewalls.

Mating the center section to the fuse is next. I need a morale boost.

I need to include a picture with the wing installed. Next time!

This thread shure got quiet! We had about a dozen guys building B-25's Where did everybody go? We have made an engine change on 2 of ours. Not a big deal as far as the engine goes but a huge difference in the way they fit in the plane. We went from a RCS 180 to an RCS 180F Which puts the carbuerator in the front. Laser Lizard recut the firewalls for us (at an excellent price I might add). I like the rear carb but the fit is just too tight on this plane.

I am going to join the fun pretty soon with a 118". I have the short kit from Jesse and a pair of 31cc just need the plans canopies and cowls and ofcorse retracts. As soon as my patty is done I will start. I am thinking of doing some foam in wings and fuse. It will model the "Show me" B-25J.
