Hi

Just wondering if anyone can help me...

I have spent many hours setting up my walkera36 heli, and my latest upgrade was the metal head (walkera one), now it seems that the extra weight from the metal head is causing more torque resulting in the heli spinning (does this sound right..??) the rear tail rotor can't keep up even with the servo adjusted to the max...

I have also installed an alighn brushless motor and have awooden pratice skit on the heli... is there any tail mods i can do to improve the tail rotors effectivness..????

there might be slipping on the tail rotor.. check if the pulley is not slipping or there is something thats binding with the belt.. even having chage the head the tail has to compensate with the torque.. something might be slipping and not giving enough power to the tail blade

Yeah,

I have checked all of that, everything seems to be o.k... i have tried to spin the tail freehand whilst holding onto the main blade and it seems good....

well if the tailblade is not slipping from the main rotor.. you might have a problem with the atil pitch angle.. but this can only be adjusted by the length of the tail shaft.. normally it should compensate with the amount of torque created by the main rotor.. but in your case this is different if the belt and pulley is not loose then you might have to replace the gear or pulley on the gear side with a different size to revise the amount of RPM the tail makes with regards to the main gear just to be able to compensate.. but this rarely happens on a belt driven system this is alredy computed... hope you find a way to fix it and share it with the rest of us

Yeah thats what i thought might need to happen.. but its just a matter of how...??? from another brand kit perhaps

I know a few of theses metal upgrade kits have been sold so i was wanting to know if anyone elso has solved the problem (if any).. probably the easiest thing is to go back to plastic original until i hear of a solution....

Any more ideas on this?

I am having the same problem on my 36. All stock apart from new servos, Futaba 6EXH tx and R156F rx

I have replaced the front tail drive cog as it had worn (I hoped this was my problem)

I have checked there is no slip between the main gear and the tail rotors

I have eliminated the gyro as I have disconnected it for the time being

My tail blades rotate up into the main rotor down-wash with the balls on the trailing edge

When I push my rudder stick right I get the pitch slider moves all the way out. When I move the rudder stick left it moves the pitch slider almost all of the way in.

My heli starts to spin to the left as soon as it takes off. Even with full right rudder on.

Just before it takes off (light on the skids) the rudder seems to have the desired effect

This may be completely unrelated, but may give you some food for thought. I have a DF37, which I believe has the same tail system as the DF36. The other day I tried a 7.4 volt battery on it just because I could . When the aircraft was light on the skids, I could control the tail as normal, when I added collective pitch and brought the bird up to about a 1 foot hover, the aircraft started to rotate left. I believe the pitch in the blades was too great for the lower powered battery. Of course when I put my 11.1v battery back on, everything was fine. I guess what I am trying to say, is that your main rotor pitch may need adjustment. Try backing off a few turns. It's possible with the new rotorhead it's putting too much pitch in for the tail rotor to compensate at a low throttle (I assume your throttle curve is linear).

Does this make sense?

I had exactly the same problem and everybody here tried to help me, they were saying all the thing mentioned in the above posts which is good advice. However, it turned out the cheap BL motor was too cheap! It didn't have enough power after about 1ft and the heli started to turn.

My solution was a good battery and an Align motor, after that it was normal and I could sleep a night.

Thanks but,

I have new 12C batteries, Align 420LF brushless and Align 25A ESC.

I think it may be that I have too much main rotor pitch too early maybe?

Hey Guys

Figured out the problem... it was that i didn't have my PLT and PIT set properly on my controller... i set the PLT to half way, then i adjusted the PIT untill the heli
flew nicely.... (help thanx to this forum)

Hope that helps

My experience with spinning tail has always been due to the drive pully. You might think its not slipping, but it is! Do this experiment; dismantle the tail drive pully (you have to take the frame apart), clean up that cog. Then CA that pully directly to the shaft (don't forget the pin that goes into the pully).
Put heli back together.
There should be no more spinning.

Unless, of course, its your gyro.

To seperate these two problems, run the heli until its just about to take off. If it starts to spin, compensate by manually controlling with your rudder stick. If at full stick you still can't make the heli from spinning (or make it spin the other way), then either your drive pully or tail case pully is slipping.

If its your gyro = when you give fully counter rudder stick, the heli stops spinning or will spin the other way. When you let go of the rudder stick, it goes back spinning as before.

Good luck.

I think I have figured it out.

My tail gears were NOT slipping!

My main rotor pitch was too great. This maybe because of the shogun hardenned & polished main shaft which has a longer pitch slot.

I overcome this by setting the end point adjustments on my transmitter so that the travel in normal mode (not got around to idle up mode yet) was between -5 and +10 degrees.

Now my tail has enough thrust to overcome the torque and I've been able to put the (Walkera) gyro back in, hover and turn left and right so I'm a happy bunny again now

Regards
David

My 36 spins like a top at 2-3 ft. The bird flys like there is no tail motor at all. Pitch seems ok. Lifts off great.

Tail blades moves ok left and right . Control of tail blades will not counter act the counter clockwise spinning of the bird.

Can anyone help.

Hi

I had the same problem...

Simple fix.. just set the PLT knob on your controller to exactly Half ... then set the PIT knob little by little until the heli flies properly (mine is on about a quarter) The other thing to check is the back of the controller and make sure that switch 5 is set to HELI and not ACRO...

Hope this helps....!!!!

There are generally one of two problems at play here

one
check the gears that transition from the autorotationary gear to the belt, if you see plastic buildup under/over one of them by the shaft it's stripped, replace gears and when a new one is purchases CA THE HECK out of the gears! (actually just use a dab at the base of each one) another thing to look for is when you apply tail pitch, does the tail motor slow down? if so it either what has been said above or the belt is slipping, to fix that, just loosen the back 6 screws in the frame and pull tail boom.

problem solved!

(if problem is not solved continue your troubleshooting to page two)

pg 2

your gyro is probably in reverse correcting the WRONG way. to check, remove gyro, hook servo to the slot where the gyro was, if spinning persists add more pitch/remove pitch from/to tail blades. If problem is solved and the heli is controllable again put gyro back on and flip the "reverse" switch.

Problem solved

PS: yes, I have had both happen to me

Thanks to all who responed. The gear that drives the belt was striped. Not the best design here with a plastic slot over a metal pin to drive the belt. The bird flys like a dream now.

Easy to work on.
