We bought 20 Hitec 5945 servo's for 4 airplanes (2m Funtana)
Yesterday, my buddy flew his airplane for the first time and it seemed he was not able to trim out his airplane (2m Funtana).
After landing we checked what was wrong.
All Hitec 5945 servo's in his aircraft have centering problem.
We disonneted 2 servo's from the ailerons to make sure if it is binding.
The problem stays.
There is about 2 degrees offset.
He fly's with a Futaba 9C.
Me and my other friend that did not fly our models yet and checked if we have the same problems.
My friend with his Futaba 14 MZ and 2048 receiver, the same problem, different centerpoint and yes indeed about 2 degrees difference.
I checked my servo's with my Graupner/JR MX22 (JR 9X in the US), the same problem, also 2 degrees of centering problem.
The conclusion is that it is NOT a transmitter fault (2 different brands, 3 different type).
This is definitely a servo problem. It is not play in the servo, it is the dead band.
I really don't understand it. My 2 years old Hitec 5945 are way much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1) The 2 years old one go's really light if you turn them by hand. The new ones does have really much resistance. Looks if they replaced the corelles motor for a crap cheap one.
2) The new ones does not have that Beep sound when centering.
It is like they have downgrade the Hitec 5945!!!!!!!!!
I feel really bad because I sayed to my friends that these are really good servo's....
This is totally unacceptable, if you cannot trim out your aircraft, you cannot fly proper!!!

I know only the thread creator and Hitec reps are supposed to post here -- but are you 100% sure it's a genuine Hitec? I've seen some servos coming out of China recently that carry very deceptive labeling (that look a *lot* like well-know brands and models) but which are. on closer inspection, definitely inferior in quality and clearly cheap knock-offs.

Hitec did change their coreless motor type recently to one that has more brush resistance (which could explain the difference in power-off resistance to turning of the output shaft) and if you have your deadband set too wide then the servos won't squeal so much at neutral -- but they should still sound "digital" when moving.

I'm confused, are you suggesting the servos do not return to center repeatedly or that the servos are 2 degrees off from commanded center at neutral settings. If the latter is the issue is sub-trim or trim in play?

As noted the brush material is different in the newer coreless motors, these are not cheaper motors. The brush material upgrade is purported to be a good thing. The resistance to movement is common on new servos.

Are you programming the servos or are they out of the box?

Is the trimming problem you note experienced when flying the model? We have found that Hitec digitals respond to control input sooner than other OEM servos requiring much lower error signals to generate movement and resistance to flight loads.

The servo's do no not return to center repeatedly, so no sub trim issue.
We did not program the servo's but drop them out of the box in to the model.
Somebody sayed to use that you can make the deadband smaller so we loaned a programmer.
Some servo's had a deadband of 4 or 5 or 2 even 9 or whateaver value.
All servo's where programmed to 1 and it looks like the problem is (almost) solved.
On the JR an Futaba 9C we did saw a much better center.
On the Futaba 14MZ with G3 receiver, we saw still some centering offset if you slightly play with the stick near center.
What I really don't understand is that the servo's have different value's, why not all servo's have standard the deadband at 1???
Nobody is interested in a bad center??? Now you are forced to buy a programmer??
