Hi guys,

What's your experience with WK G006 gyro, is it trustworthy? Any glitches with it?

Thanks!

The WK-G006 Gyro works well with the DF60 heli. The Function of the AVCS (Angular Vector Control System )/ Normal mode really works and the Walkera GYRO works as good as any gyro in the market within its price range.

This is how I see it work on my DF60.

At Normal mode the red LED on the gyro is turned off.
it fuctions like any standard gyro maintaining the tail on one position preventing rotation on both directions. The Gyro sensitivity can be set using the small plastic tool provided and rotating the small potentiometer on one of the sides of the gyro. When in forward flight the gyro reacts and makes movement stable in one direction.

At AVCS mode the red LED will turn on with a steady brigth light
It functions the same as the Normal mode were it maintains the
tail position on one steady direction preventing rotational movement on both directions
The only difference is the ability to maintain the direction after a counter acting force has been applied on the heli.

Lets say If I were heading 0°N direction both Normal and AVCS mode will function the same at this situation then lets add a gust of wind perpendicular to the motion of the heli, at this point the gyro will react to counter the amount of wind and prevent the heli from drifting. The difference on the modes are in this situation. At Normal mode the gyro will counteract with the amount of wind shear it is recieving and steady the tail position to prevent further rotational movement, once stable the helis heading will be off a couple of degrees from original heading. This is were the AVCS mode differs it functions the same as the Normal mode but with the addition of returning to its original heading. So if you were set at Normal mode and headed 0°N after a gust of wind you might be headed at 5°N but in the AVCS mode this is retained into memory and will still be heading 0°N.
Its kinda hard to explain in words but I have made a simple diagram of how I see it function on my DF60

I am an idiot, almost. The instructions caused me connect the signal wire to "gear" and I should have connected the signal lead to Aux 2 as I use JR txs - and yes, I have the WK-007 and though I have only tried it once since spotting my error, it is really good and works just like my GY401s. Only other downside was it cam with no DS tape.

I think you had to get the WK-G007 with active lead for AUX switching... the 006 does not have the lead for that, that is why you cant control if from your TX. I guess you will be needing to get a 007.. havent had that problem with my 006 it fuctions well and the HH functions good also.. dont know if you got a dud gyro..

The WK G006 gyro works almost as good as the Futaba gy240. I have over 50 flights on the gy240 in my W#36, it holds the tail solid, just put on the WK G006 gyro in, 6 flgihts so far and works flawlessly. I'm surprise at less than 1/2 the cost of the gy240, it keeps the tail really solid, need to wait for less windy day to do FFF to see how the tail at turns.

i would like to ask for your input your. i have a walkera 36 and a trex. recently i picked up a hirobo shuttle z basicaly for free now i'm not aiming at spending alot of money on a new gyro. i do have a wk g006 walkera here and i was wondering if this gyro would be sufficient. im not considering taking the jr 460t of the trex. i also aim to use the hirobo for more scale type flying. maybe put on a scale fuse and so on. i dont want to fly 3d with it. would the gyro be ok or not

I have a G006 that I can't use in avcs. It holds like a rock on runnup until I bump the rudder stick then after that, it will never settle. Always a slow ccw drift, about a 30 second rotation. The tail slider will never center if I move the tail around to where it thinks the heading should be. I am considering a Telebee, but I hear the Telebees don't hold up to a hard landing as well as the Walkera. I would like to have the servo travel adjustment the GY401 has, it's easy to accidentally overtravel and buzz the servos when on the ground in AVCS mode.
That brings a question, can you power up the G006,007 in AVCS, switch to normal, then back to AVCS when you are through messing with it ? See, maybe a ruined digital servo/low cost AVCS can add up to the cost of the GY401 without the hassle.

"AVCS" is the fancy term Futabu uses for Head Holding and Walkera borrows it (I think). The Walkera WK-G006 Gyro does not have a remote adjustment like the GY401, it is similar to GY240 which does not support digital servo. You have to manually switch on and off from the AVCS mode and you have to do it with the power off.

I have 2 WK-G006 Gyros, one in the W#36 and one in the W#4 with separates. On the W#4, I use 2 models to program my radio to switch between the head holding and rate mode and the gyro holds the tail very nice on the HH (AVCS) mode and requires some tingling in the REV mixing for the rate mode. Both mode works flawlessly.

I have a new WK-G007 in my spare parts that I've thought about putting on my 36. I have a WK-G006 on there now that works fine but I wonder if the 007 is better? Also, I know about the remote gain control (that I would probably never use) but what's the "delay" and "extent" adjustments?

The G007 has a travel adjustment. It is worth trying to save a servo. If on the ground in AVCS and you bump the heli as little as 1/2 inch or less, the servo will creep to it's limit and buzz and grind. The travel limit will prevent this. The G007 is about 1/3 the cost of the GY401, but the 401 also seems to have a rate adjustment so you can set how fast the tail will swing. My G006 is stuck on very slow. If I bypass it by plugging the tail servo into the receiver, my tail can really whip around, almost as fast as the Three Dee model in FMS.

I did some work with it and figured out that my receiver was powering up in the failsafe settings then switching to the stick signals while the gyro was initializing. That probably threw the gyro's init routine off. Now when I set it on the floor, turn it on, then turn the tail, the tail slider moves to counter the move, and when I move the tail back, the slider goes back almost where it was, and the opposite movement of the slider happens when I turn it the other way, again with the slider returning when I get back to the same spot. But if I move it randomly back and forth, it sort of just goes to one limit (ggggggrrrrrrr) and stays there. Don't look good to me.

Ok, now I have this thing getting close to what it should do. And the difference in spinup alone is worth the AVCS. That heli is twists all over the place in normal mode spinup, even with revo mixing. But now it holds rock solid during spinup and it actually holds off the floor. I do get a tiny amount of drift, managable but I would like to tune that out.
I can tune it out with rudder trim, but that is not how I understand AVCS is supposed to work. Sometimes I have to add trim until the led blinks. It works and holds that way, but I would think that even with a bit of un-gyro'd drift would be countered with constant corrections. Maybe it is a little sensitive to gain. Too little gain and it drifts a LITTLE (not near as much before the failsafe fix), too much and it wags.
ThanX for starting the thread, I was going to buy a new gyro, but I think this is going to fix it. Wellll maybe a G007 for the travel limit. Then I can set 150% rudder travel on the radio and get a better rudder turn rate with the G007 preventing over travel.
I think you need a "Degree" in gyro management.

SB,

I have 2 helis with both 006 gyros.. it hold okay and in flight it is knida good in HH mode.. The drift is inherent on this Piezo gyros To eliminate it better get the Futaba 240/401 the SMM chips seem to hold really well in temparature and battery power.. I did the trick that JD said on the drift.. if you try to initiallize the heli upside down.. then try to initilize if right side up after.. The drift kinda lessens or the heli does not drift.. I have tried this a couple of times and it seemed to work.. but its strange that you have to do this... but if it works with your setup its worth doing it...

I have been reading that all the low cost $150 and under HH and rate gyros have some drift. So who hovers exactly in one spot for 5 minutes without falling asleep ? As you fly around, the slow drift that happens over several minutes gets cancelled by all the moves you make and won't get noticed. Picky picky. I am accustomed to $80,000 robots with $3500 servo controllers. I don't think I would even use the $2500 servo controller in my heli, especially since it weighs about 8 lbs. But it will swing a 400 lb welding jig around an 8 foot arc in about a second and stop within 0.004 inch then place a weld.
I guess my decision will be a G007 for the servo travel adjustment.
There are some tradeoffs between AVCS and rate gyros in sport flying. You may be used to a rate gyro that will let the tail swing around some when turning with cyclic only (lazy, dumb, or both). You must use some rudder stick in AVCS or the heli will only slide across the field at the same heading, where the nose will turn some in rate. We call it coordinated turns in airplanes when the tail rate matches the roll angle.
But, AVCS is so great at holding the heli still while spinning up or down. So, you can use a remotely selectable mode (gear channel) to spinup and lift off in AVCS and do your loose sport flying in normal by flipping the mode to rate after takeoff and before landing. You should be less likely to twist, snag something, and tip over when taking off and landing in AVCS.
So that is my plan, based on what I have studied so far.
