Status: offline 		Yeah, I've been trying to find where I saw that. I think I saved the link on my home pc but I'm at work right now. I can't find it in the forums and I'd hate get people all excited for nothing. I guess that's what happens when you've been buried in the forums doing research...numbers jump in and out of your head so much you get confused

Status: offline 		Busted!!! I guess I got my sources confused about the Xoar props...still good info about how they stack up against other brands. I had been looking at the thread about the WH 120 Baby Edge w/ a 40cc Brillelli in it. Here's the link to the thread, which is relevant because we're talking about very similiar airframes and weights:

Here's what Scott at Brillelli said about the Xoars:

"You do not need a smoke muffler on a gas engine. I was a little leary about tapping the muffler on the 40 because it is so thin, but I did 3 this past weekend and it seems it will hold fine. All you need is a tap in the muffler to allow the smoke fluid to flow in. A gas exahust is so hot no coils are needed. I have run our old 25's like that and the ammount of smoke they made was amazing

I have also been doing some thrust testing with different brands of props. On the our 60 I used an APC, Mejzlik, and a Xoar. What I found was thew Xoar out pulled the other props by a wide margin. Even the carbon fiber Mejzlik. It beat it by over 2 lbs, both 22x10 props. If the Zinger doesn't work well I would try a Xoar 20x8. I am really starting to like those props. I built a test stand with ball bearing slides to get a better thrust reading than the Thrust HP program. That program is so far off it almost usless. I could not believe how far off it was. It also favors APC props which I foun to have the least amount of pull compared to the Mejzlik or Xoar. "

I still think it's valid as Scott told me if the EVO was marginal then to strap the 40 on it, and at a complete weight (ignition and muffler) of 52oz, it's still a possible upgrade for those who have EVO26's that are marginal on 3D power. If I remember right I weighed my EVO26 w/ BCM inverted pitts and ignition, and come up just over 40oz. Plus you can get the complete Brillelli 26 for $285 and the 40 for $325!

Status: offline 		Just a reminder 40cc engine regardless of weight is not recommended for our Yak 73". The vibration induced from a 40cc engine can damage the airframe!

Status: offline 		Yeah, I guess that's an important consideration. If your Yak (or any airframe I'd imagine) is built on the light side I can see it being a problem. I haven't heard anything about the WH Edge or the CMP Giles being hurt by vibration, but then again they are fairly recent developments, and I'd probably add glue and reinforcements just to be safer. I had asked Scott about his 40 and although it's based on the popular SPE motor, he puts CH ignition which will stand up to high rpm, and he balances the motor as well as having a custom cnc'd hub with knurling on it. He even referred to the SPE as a "paint shaker" but said his is MUCH smoother. I'll have mine soon enough and would will post results. So far it's looking like the 40 will get a Xoar prop and strapped on the Giles. I guess if it shakes the frame apart, it's only a $169 airframe. I'm still interested in the EVO on the Yak as long as I can have some pullout power, put instead of modding it for a tunnel, perhaps just extending the header for the tuned pipe to strap it below the fuse. I haven't looked much into it, but if there's that much more power, I'd trade the pretty looks for performance.

Looks like we are finally getting somewhere on the 73" yak power. Am not completely convenced on the elvo 26, think your rear intake 3W will produce "just right" power with the rear induction design even if they ar another $240.00 over the elvo. Where did you get your engine from? Looking forward to your experience report. You might check into the xoar props, I will.

Status: offline 		rmenke, i am running a little behind on the build so it may be next week before i get it finished. i bougt the engine from a guy on rcu with around 4 gal oif fuel run through it, pitts style muffler and 3 props. hope it runs out ok, i think it will he seems like a straight up guy.

i have ran the xoir props before on my 160 os that i had on my 72" yak but the menze18-6 was the better prop on that set up. yesterday i did alot of prop testing on my 102" QQ and the best two props are the menz 27-10 and the xoir 27-10 and i think i like the xoir a little better on that set up with a DA 100. i haven't tried any carbon props on it yet but have tried bolly, menz, xoir, and NX. the xoir props that i have tried came in ballanced and took very little to make perfect. if yo have not tried one yet go for it they are very good props nad you can get them from desert aircraft for a good price.

This video has convinced me that I bought the right aircraft! I'll be using a 1.60FX in mine and probably use the same prop Quique did 18x6W APC.

Status: offline 		Yeah, now imagine if you strapped a tuned pipe on it and didn't build a tunnel and didn't mind the looks! I remember reading that someone tried the 18X6W and didn't think it had as much pull as the standard 18X6. They said the gas motors didn't like them as much. With all the buzz lately about the Xoar props, I'd be interested in how it would do with the Xoar 18X6.

I'm not sure you'll gain too much with the tuned pipe on the YAK. Pipes usually do develop more power but only at a certain RPM. You may have heard the term "on the pipe" before? It's up to you but I think in this style of aircraft a muffler system with a broard power range is more suitable.

Status: offline 		hmmmm tuned pipe..sounds like a great comb...even if some don't think looks purty on the hanger..hmmm don't wont to sound not thankful for QQ's test results (I am) "wish there was some more.. only... using another typ prop in his demo .. would love to see some results with another prop.. ..."anybody" pre-ciate the help to hear or see someones thoughts and pi'cs here .. what-ya think Rez
