Are there any pylon racing clubs / groups in TEXAS?

I know about the SA propbusters starting club racing with sky raiders and My group is considering the same. I would like to speak to others doing either club racing or AMA 424 in this area.

Good question, I ask it occasionally too! I know TXWINGS race a run what ya brung .25, Seven Towers in Kennedale (my club) race bushing .40's on B&H Rookies, links... http://racingrookies.tripod.com/ and http://www.strcc.org/strcc_001.htm Be nice to find some 424 within a couple of hours away, we would try it at our field, but participation seems limited. We may even have enough room for a three pole set-up at our field. We only have had around five planes lately, so we are trying to let non-members in, and even letting similar planes race, but no new blood! We are racing this weekend, all are welcome!!! Did I mention hot dogs too?

Hello,

We do have a race this weekend in Witchita Falls TX. It is an NMPRA style race with all three AMA events to be ran. Saturday will be AMA 424, AMA 428, and AMA 422. Sunday will be AMA 428, and then AMA 424. The race will be held at the club field by the lake. Here is the link to the club website. http://wfrcc.org/
The Wichita Falls club does an outstanding job of hosting a race. They have an onsite lunch both days as well.

This is one of five races that is held each season in district VIII NMPRA series. We have others in Houston, Fort Bend, TX City, etc.

We will be racing in Ft. Bend TX on the weekend of Sept. 30, and Oct. 1 with the same format. I am currently trying to get another race finalized for the mid Oct timeframe at Scobie field in Houston, TX.

There will also be an NMPRA Championship series race held at Wichita Falls the weekend of Sept. 16. This will be an AMA 422 race only for two days.

Please visit the NMPRA site (nmpra.org) for updates regarding racing in Texas. Read the NMPRA newsletter under district VIII. I try to post an article there every issue.

If anyone would like more information on Pylon racing in Texas, feel free to contact me, Dennis Cranfill NMPRA VP Dist. VIII at denniscranfill@sbcglobal.net. I will be glad to help any way I can.

Thanks Dennis!

It is a way up there but I am going to try to go check it out. Maybe I'll try to run 1 or 2 races in the future, if I can find a pit crew to go with me!

TXWINGS only has three races scheduled this year. Engines are limited to commonly available .25s under $100 street price completely stock except removal of the muffler baffle. OS is the most used engine. Magnums and Thunder Tigers also show up from time to time. The airplane must have a conventional tractor configuration. Starts are ROG from a grass runway after 45 seconds of idling so spotters have a chance to clear the field. Heats are 10 laps around two pylons at 500 feet. 100mph air speed is required to be competitive.

What other planes does STRCC allow? I have a Fun-Stik 40 with a .40FP. Would that be okay? I can't find Rookie kits, plans, or ARFs online. All I can figure is the Rookie is no longer in production. Do you have sources? Maybe Kyle would be interested in cutting some kits?

Gunfighter,
I'm not sure if Ft.Bend has a website. However, here is the e-mail to the CD of the contest: email: neonsteve@earthlink.net. I can also be reached for any info with regards to the race. If you're looking for site info, it will be held at the field directly behind the Ft. Bend County Fairgrounds in Rosenburg, TX. Take IH10 to TX Hwy 36. South on Hwy 36 about two miles +/- on the left hand side.

Dave,
There are no major airports extremely close to the field, but it is not too far from Dalls Love, DFW, or OK City. Just check the airline rates too see what will be cheaper and where. Each of these airports are basically the same distance from the field. Here is Dub's response to the same question, "You will fly into OK City, or Dallas Love. Check the schedule for the best times. You can also go into Austin, Houston, Lubbock, or LAX, with declining convience."

As far as cooking is concerned, you know how we do. Just fly by the seat of our pants. We'll probably try for something Friday night. The club will be doing some cooking of their own, and I hear the cook has gone to BBQ school lately, so we'll see what he learned.

We have got to plan a night for the this years Nats again. Maybe we can reverse the wiring on Condon's golf cart so it goes backwards when he wants to go forward or something...

See ya soon

I'm sorry gunfighter,
It is on the right hand side of Hwy 36 when travelling south. That's what I get for not proofing my response...

I found a link - thanks!

www.fortbendrc.com/

Hope to see and talk to some of you at Witchita Falls Fri. evening and Saturday. If you see a BIG guy walking around drooling at all the planes...that will be me!

P.S. I have a Predator 2 and engine due in Friday.

As long as we don't have to fly into LAX, that will be fine with me. I'll check into it Dennis, thanks.

If the cook doesn't perform like were use to, maybe we'll have to do a good ole' fashinoned Lynchin'

We had a blast at the Houston race last year. The BBQ that the Ritchs' put on was great, the chili at the field was great, and every meal we ate was great. I think I gained a few on that trip.

I think I race for the food and drink

I suppose we will think of something, Wednesday night works good to work on Mikes car

Gunfighter, with that description, people might think that I am you

Here is a link to a map. Don't know what time it starts, but I assume it will be fairly early Saturday - say around 10:00. See you there!
