DonStegall -> Miss Foxy Lady for Q-40 / Q-40 Sport (6/6/2006 1:17:41 AM)

The Miss Foxy Lady that Dan Kane produced the molds for is back on the streets.

StegallHobbies.com is producing them now. A fiberglass fuselage and foam core kit with plans and instructions is $75 for the time being.

This plane was well proven and will make an excellent Q-40 Sport plane.

I'm considering adding the tail wood components pre-slotted for 1/64" plywood with my fiberglass and foam kits. Would you rather just pick your own balsa, or is the slotting something you would rather not have to mess with? Should I include a 3/8" firewall as well?

I'm going to offer firewall mounting and JETT mounts for a good price ... Probably $35 for the installed and included mount ... For either a 422 engine or a Thunder Tiger Pro .40 engine.

I think offering a more complete kit would be a good thing. I personally have no problem with doing the slotting and prefer to select my own wood, but I know many others would appreciate having it done for them. The installed firewall would also be a nice option. Seems like you could get this stuff laser cut and add it to the kit for a reasonable price. Maybe offer a short kit and a full kit.

Now enough messing around on the computer. Get back in the shop and get mine built!

If Jett now makes a mount for the Thunder Tiger .40 that has the same backplate bolt pattern as the regular Q-40 mount ...

and the distance from the firewall to the spinner is the same, too ...

then there's no reason not to make EVERY fuse with the firewall installed and blind nuts already in it! [X(]

As long as the wing spar is adequate, you could swap back and forth between powerplants on the same airplane. Just add a touch of tailweight to balance the Thunder Tiger.

Nice.

Nice idea Don...looks very slick

I will probably keep the base kit price at rock bottom, and offer options. Some people may not want the firewall pre-installed and they may not want to use a $22.50 mount.

If bagging the skins for the wing is feasible, I may make that an option. I think there may be some demand for a Semi-ARC kit that has the firewall installed, the wings sheeted, and the plywood installed in the tail surfaces.

If I keep the kit price low enough, other people may pick up on building or partially building airframes for others.

Thanks for the comments. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Don:

Where are you at regarding the Miss Foxy Lady. Am looking for a sport pylon racer that is not too far from arf or rtf for a club race in 30 days. Yea, short time. If you have something in this area, please send me a pm or whatever. Thanks Bro 119

Hey Don,
I have peeked on the Stegallhobbies website but without any luck.
Interesting plane, are there any pics or video(s) of the finished version available?

Is there a way i can get one down here in Europe?

Thanks,

Cliff

Behind. I'm just now getting cores cut. I've had some health issues and haven't been up to 3-4 hour lay-ups lately.

If you need something right away, you probably want an ARF, or all molded composite plane like the Polecat. I don't know what the delivery is on a Polecat, but you can go to http://www.supertrc.com and inquire there.

Don
I hope everthing is ok.
I am looking forward to getting the airplane.
Do you still have molds for the F1 sport Lil Tony?

Mark

Don:

Hope your health issues are gone and done with. Went through the prostrate thing two years ago, not much fun, kemo knocks heck out of you, but am still here and kicking. You are a large asset to our hobby, take good care of yourself please. ENJOY

Thank you all for you concerns. I had a heart attack scare, and spent the night in the hospital about a month ago.

I've had two heart stress tests since I got out of the hospital, and I just got the conclusive results on Monday. No significant blockages were found. However my Troponin enzyme levels were elevated when I got to the hospital, so I had at least a mild heart attack. $10K for one night in the hospital with all of the tests I had. I learned that I have diabetes in the hospital. I had to have insulin, but I'm not insulin dependent yet.

I have been learning to live with the diabetes and haven't had a regular soda since I was in the hospital. The biggest problem I've had is fatigue. No sugar has had a big impact on my ability to stay with things for a long period of time. I can't make myself commit to a several hour lay-up of fuselages by myself, so far, for instance. But I'm losing weight and feeling better every day. Plus my wife is being really good at addressing the sugar problem. I'm using a lot of Splenda, and she has found things like cookies and candy made with Splenda and other sweetners.

I'm happy to say that Club 40 has been taking a lot of my time. I have assembled and flown planes, and that feels good. I had forgotten what it is like to just get an ARF and have it in the sky in a few days. I still like building, but my son enjoys the time we have spent putting planes together and flying. He and I flew on and off all day on Saturday and Sunday. I paced myself and we only flew one or two flights between breaks.

Yes I do. And I have a fuselage and cheek cowls on hand. I don't have a fiberglass canopy or wheel pants, but could do them reasonably quickly. I don't have any cores cut. DHG was going to get this one, but it looks like it has your name on it. :)

We'll work out the deal later on. It will be a good deal. ;)

Don
All I need are the fuse and cheeks, so what you have on hand would be great.
Take care of your self.

Mark
