Hello all,
I am very new to the r/c scene.I will be picking up my new mini-lst from the hobby shop this weekend.I have researched the truck from online articles, however i know there will be things i dont know about.I need to know real-world what spare parts i might need.I know there has been issues with the dif-gears and also some other pinion gears.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. For a start I will get an extra battery(the standard one)and a peak charger...Thanks in advance from this soon to be hobby shop junkie.

Its pretty strong depending on how you run it, but as with any r/c id keep some extra a-arms and shock towers. Id reccomend getting a nice battery for your extra....the stock battery isnt that great.

As far as batteries,I was going to get the one thats a little better than stock by losi...also the peak charger....Li-po's and charger could run a c-note....For 2 batteries plus charger?
I just want to be able to bash around at first ...Then maybe a few trips to the r/c park here....after i get acclamated.....thoughts

Zix;
This is from very recent experience!
A.) Replace plugs with Deans plugs!
B.) Run the crap out of it!

I am having a blast with mine. This is the first mini I have had and despite all the negative posts, it has been perfect for me. It is fast and extremely durable. I took my diffs apart to put grease in them and they were already full of grease. I guess Horizon is doing this on the new ones?? I bought it about 2 weeks ago and have been running it nearly everyday. I chase dogs, jump hills, run through the grass, drive mail down to the neighbors house, etc. It is fun. The range is incredible. You will like it. DONT BE SCARED FROM ALL THE BAD POST!

No dont worry no negativity here...The truck is half paid for and I am picking it up this weekend...I have heard too many good things about it.I know everyone has their own opinion...On these deans connectors, can you clarify with a picture and a good link to a site i can find them...Or will they have at the local shop? Also, do you just splice the connectors or is it plug and play? Also, what type of grease should I use in the diffs,if there isnt any.....Lastly is there any post or article that provides a schdule of when and what you should maintenance on this truck ....once again thanks again for all the help....sorry if the questions seem to be stupid.Remember you were there once....

hoping to have a solid slightly modded mini-lst in the near future

You take the current plug off and solder these on, a definate first for the mini lst. My wiress started melting which could have caused a fire. Lets just say if your lhs doesnt carry them you need to find a new hobby shop, very basic item.

I would definately get a better battery than the losi one. You can find good prices on the web. I have a GP1100 pack and an IB1400 pack. I highly recommend the IB pack.

To begin with get a pack of f/r dif gears, stearing knuckles, and arms. If the arms go, the shock tower has a tendancy to break with it.
The rims will probably break at some point. Dish rims dyed to the color of your choice work good. For the most part you just replace parts as they break. My suggestion on saving your difs would be to grease them, avoid reverse to full forward, and avoid carpet!

Hope that helps.

Boil the gears and grease them, they last much longer that way.

and oh, when your shopping for the replacement arms and stuff, absolutely resist the urge to do anything to your drivetrain... this includes getting the 2.2 wheels adaptors and running 1/10 stadium truck wheels just cuz you might think the stock tires are too small... the combination of slipper and center diff is actually quite a balance set by whoever designed this truck, you are not supposed to be able to wheelie with the mini lst

To answer your question about a maintenance schedule. Their isn't really anything specific you need to do. I would highly suggest getting yourself a can of electric motor cleaner. You can use it to clean the whole truck without worry of damaging anything. The only other thing I can think of is changing/checking the shock oil periodicly. Not sure how often your supposed to do that. And when I say check it, I mean check for leaks and such. Maybe someone else can chime in on how long shock oil stays good.

Pick up some extra tie rods because those buggers like to pop off.

are these standard batts,or li-po,s,, and the ones captncooke said are they standard, just more run time?I am trying to keep cost down but i figure with 10-15 min run time i need some spares and wold rather have better batts. One more thing ,cuz it doesn't seem like ya'll mind the questions....are these batteries the typ that have memory and must be fully discharged in order to keep them holding a charge...and if so, will using the peak fast charger deplete them faster..............Once again thanks for the posts ...i should have things mapped out by the weekend ... icant wait ..........

they are nimh and you shoud dicharge them fully before recharging for best results. When storing a nimh batt for longer than a week you should have at least a 50% chares on them
