I'm getting ready to purchase an Ultra Stick 60 and I'm considering an O.S. 91FX vs. an Evoltion 1.00NX. Any suggestions? Horrizon offers a nice package deal with the Evolution. Purchasing the plane and the O.S. 91 separate would run about $65 more. Any thoughts?

A friend of mine has one with a Tower 75 on it that has the same performance as another friend's with the 91fx. They are only $90 or so, and everyone I know who has one, loves it. Plenty of power for the 60 size stick.

Over the years, OS has produced some excellent engines. The 91FX is not one of them.

THe Ultrasticks are nose heavy. Use the lightest engine you can get by with or you will be putting a lot of lead in the tail.

I think I would go with the OS I know they cost more but they are very good engines and very reliable I would stick with that but I mean I also have also seen some evolution 1.00's that were good so for the price I guess go ahead and get the evolution it is definatly cheaper if price is a big issue. HAPPY FLYING!

I flew mine with a .75 SuperTigre (older, Italian) and it had plenty of power... I'm sure the newer Tower .75 (which I have on a different plane and love!) will pull that plane around beautifully. Search here on RCU, there are threads which show how to move the tail servos back to the tail and balance the plane without having to add any lead anywhere. Good luck with this plane, it made a great trainer for me. I love this plane!

I have one with a Satio 100. Love this baby. Looking to re-do rudder for better Knife Edge

Definitely nose heavy plane. Be careful about the OS 91 - it's a shame it bears the OS name - total problematic engine. As for the Evolution- seems like a roll of the dice - if you get a good one it will run great - if not then nothing but problems.

The plane is very light - I've seen if flown gracefully with a 70 4 stroke. Personally - mine has quad flaps and the venerable Saito 100. 10 foot t/o roll and nothing but vertical. Total blast to fly. Go for a Saito .82 to 100. It's a little bit more but well worth it.

I am a professional pilot and believe me when I say this - I park my jet at the airport and haul ass home because I can't wait to fly the stick.

I "had" an US 60 once! (don't ask) Anyhow, at one time or another, I had installed, an OS FS91, Saito 100, and, when she died the Saito 125. all great engines. The nose heavy part of the setup can be easily dealt with. When i had mine all assembled and ready to fly, I put it on the balance, and then placed the battery behind the trailing edge of the wing and slid the battery toward the tail until it balanced. then i built a battery shelf at that point, by cutting a Hatch opening in the bottom of the fuse, and building a battery plate. held the battery with velcro. It is an easy job to make a latch out of the piece cut out if you are careful. then a heavy duty servo lead to wire the battery to the switch. It is one sweet flyin machine, and i think i see another one coming up!

That Evolution 1.00 NX engine has a particularly bad reputation. The user reviews here on RC Universe are not kind for that particular Evo model:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_guide/EngineProfile.cfm?engine_id=843

Given that nobody else on this thread is particularly enthusiastic about the O.S. Max .91 FX, perhaps you should consider:

$89.99 - Kangke USA SK KE .80 2-stroke
$94.99 - Tower Hobbies .75 2-stroke
$99.99 - Kangke USA SK KE .90 2-stroke
$99.99 - GMS .76 2-stroke
$109.99 - Super Tigre G-75 ringed 2-stroke
$119.99 - Super Tigre G-90 ringed 2-stroke
$119.99 - Magnum XLS .91A 2-stroke
$119.99 - Kangke USA SK KE 1.10 2-stroke
$149.99 - Magnum RFS .91 4-stroke

All of these engines are better than the Evolution 1.00 NX for less money. Some of these choices are half the price of the O.S. Max .91 FX. Happy shopping.
