My Edge is now weighing in at 15 lbs, 6oz. with an empty tank. The Saito 180 with a APC 18-6w has more than enough power for the flying I do. I have had to replace the tailwheel bracket as the flimsy one provided went flat on the first flight. I don't remember what brand I replaced it with but it is quite heavy with the 3 leaf springs. All equiptment is mounted ahead of the CG with the exception of the reciever and rudder servo. There is nothing in the plane that is not necessary. If by chance the pull/pull cables had to be replaced I would try moving the rudder servo to the forward position, that would shift a 3 oz. servo forward about 3 inches putting it right on the CG. My battery is mounted on the engine box. I still had to add 6 oz. of lead to the firewall to get a correct CG a lot of this ballast is to correct for the heavier tailwheel bracket. I am still running two servo on the ailerons and may try just one, not much weight reduction but I can use them on another plane!!

I am now working on my 3rd. gallon of fuel and the Edge is a kick to fly. Other than the tailwheel bracket I have had no other problems with any of the Goldberg supplied accesories.

I helped my friend build a yak 77", we think it is at 15#
we are going to check tomorrow to know exactly
he have a brilleli 46cc for power
It is a good flying plane and I think it is a good combo with the brilleli
we changed the bolts that comes for the control horn in the hardware
for the dubro control horns because they were bending in flight

I guess 15 or 16lbs is normal,sounds like otheres are in that range. I wonder why mine came out lighter

I hope the builders didnt forget to install something.

I just finished mine. I ran the engine in the front yard for two hours at 3000 rpm on 30:1.

It weighs 13 lb 6 oz empty.

If all checks out tomorrow morning could be the maiden.

Hitec 5625's on the wings and elevators,
Hitec 5925 on the rudder and a
JR 537 on the throttle controling a
40cc SPE gasser.
16 oz sullivan tank on the CG (under the wing tube, I relocated the rudder servo tray) which is 4.625 behind the leading edge of the wing.

The plane flies great I really enjoy it.

Throw out the soft 6 x 32 and get some good ones or get some Dubro stuff. I am using the hinges and most of the hardware that came with it.

The canopy and cowl screws vibrate out on me and I have to re-engineer those.
I went with better wheels and a different tail wheel as well

I am looking for a 30mm carbon fiber wing tube and some 10mm tail tubes as well. I would like to loose a little wieght.

I Tri-stocked the firewall and the first former. I reinforced the landing gear with an angle aluminium piece to tie the two halfs together.

I went over all glue joints inside with thin CA. I used trim solvent on all covering seams.

I moved the rudder servo back one former so I could build a tank tray under the wing tube.

I am using one servo per wing in the stock location nearest the center.

Well,I guess my interest in this has vapourized.
Much of their planes are discontinued and never seemed to keep up with the competition.Its a silly size anyway,need large Nitro or small gasser and all seem to come out way too heavy to even bother.Too bad,as CG was a company that used to set standards in this hobby.

I'm afraid I don't understand your comment. CG was a Chicago based company that would give our club members a tour once a year. I am very familar with their products. But more to the point, I own and fly one of these Edges

But what happened to them was us.

As a group we have gone from kit builders to ARF buyers. This does not keep companies like CG in business. We killed them and I am sorry.

Like most companies they tried to change and offer their customers the ARF's that we wanted. The Edge 540 is one such product. I have one. It flies great! It is not heavy. 1100+ squares and 13.4 pounds with a 40cc gasser (20 pounds of thrust), 5 metal gear high torque high speed servos(62 grams each) and a 6 volt high capacity batteries(I choose gas because I fly 5 days a week weather permiting and gas just seems to make sense over a big glow for me). As for the size being "silly" , again, 77 inches with two piece removeable wings just fit in my little Chevy Corsica. Drive to the feild and I am flying IMAC after 10 minutes of prep. It flies 3d too, maybe I will learn this some day.

I would recommend this plane to anyone. It is of the most modern design minus carbon tubes. The build quality was superior to many planes out there. Most of the included hardware was up to my high standards and was used. So I think it will be flying for a long time.

I wish I still enjoyed glueing kits together as much as I used to so great companies like CG would still be making great kits.

Tower Hobbies recently bought CG and Lanier. Tower just had a big sale on the Edges of 270 bucks, wow! I bet they sold a lot of them. I also hope some of those new owners come on here and share their ideas, tricks, problems and questions.

I hope that because that is what these forms are for.

I understand the good kit comment from CG.I built and enjoyed many over the years.Your weight seems acceptable for a 40cc.
Just from reading it seemed many had trouble with weight and hardware.The plane is cheap now,but last year it was quite expensive and the price and issues were a bit of a turn off for me.The competition from overseas has surely put strain on many.
Lanier and CG have slowly gotten behind in quality and price,and are steadily loosing reckongnition in the demanding world of flat out performance and cost.I went on Towers site and many CG were dicontinued.
I am not flaming the company,product, or people that bought the stuff,but stating that it seems the that the competition has outrun them.Somewhat sad to see really,as CG was a leader and when I was starting out in the early 90's CG was the #1 product on the shelf.

I've just recently finished a CG Extra 330 77". Powered by a Moki 1.35 using the 16 x 10 breakin prop, the plane flies great.

Don't know the finish weight, don't really care. The 1.35 is fairly light, so I added about 12oz of weight to the engine box to get the cg right.

I have a .40-.70 size Edge 540, and love the way it flies, and if I get the chance, I'll go ahead and get a CG Edge 540 77" for my next plane. I have a Moki 1.80 for that one, and I'm sure it will be as good as the Extra.

My first experience with Goldberg was the Extra, and I was very pleased with the overall qualitiy. The only changes I made were to upgrade all the wheels, and to get a larger fuel tank, as mine came with a 16oz tank, and I knew the Moki was a thirsty little bugger. I added a 24oz tank, and I get around 15 min. flights with proper throttle management.

I'd have to say that if anyone would try one of these planes, I'm sure they'll like it.

I am wandering about the balance on this airframe, from the ones that has flown the Edge. I have a SPE 40cc on my Goldberg Edge, and the balance is about 5 1/4" from LE. This is farther back than recommended. What I have found is that recommendation is usually conservative, being usually nose heavy. I just wanted some input before maiden flight just to be sure from somebody has flown it. Where was your balance, and do you think I will be ok on balance at 5" or little more? If I remember right they recommended 4-4.5" on balance. Thanks

Recommended cg is 4-1/2" to 4-3/4" behind LE. Mine is flying perfect (just a hair nose heavy) at 4-5/8" w/a fuji 43.

My CG is at 4.625 inches also. It flies perfect for me. I had to move my battery forward of the wing tube to get this CG.

I think I started with 4.750 but it climbed on an inverted 45.
