Just nosed in my Extra 330 77" last week due to engine out from about 20 feet up. Mashed up the cowl, broke the tubes off the muffler, and snapped the landing gear in half. The good news is the plane itself was pretty much in tact. Glue joints behind the engine box, and in front of the wing tube broke loose, but realigned every thing, and glued up with some tri-stock, and she's as good as new. Now just waiting for the new landing gear, CF this time, hope it'll hold up better than the aluminum. I think you should really break in the motor well before using the smoke system. Killing the engine is a tendency of a smoke sys., and see if you can program your radio to cut the smoke when the throttle is reduced below 1/2. (You may have already done that.) I got a book on aerobatics from my LHS, and it had a section on smoke systems, how they worked, how best to rig them, and adjustments to make for greater output. If you haven't read something like this, you should. I like the smoke, I'll probably add it to my plane as well just as soon as I feel comfortable with what I know about them. We put a lot of time and energy into these things, it is such a shame to lose them to engine failure, no matter what the cause.
