ORIGINAL: Supercharged6-71 I am running stock tank, I had it mounted about 3 inchs in front of wing tube, now its moved back to the wing tube. I was very happy with the quality of this plane, I did have a proplem with cover on my left wing about 3 inchs from fuselage. I was thinking of putting a fuji bt64a engine on this plane, it wieghs the same as the g38 zenoah and swings a larger prop 22 compared to 18. Any thoughts on this would be great. The first time I flew this plane, I had a very hard time getting it up in the air, I was running a 18x10 prop. I landed and was told by a member of our club to try another pitch prop, I put a 18x6 on her and she came up a hole lot better. I have sense removed almost 500 grams, I was running a 7 cell 2100 nicad hooked to a castle creation bec. set at 6 volts. I have sense changed that for a 7.4 volt 2100 lipo. I am using the JR DX6i Spectrum radio with 6 ds821 servo's and 2 futaba 3305 servo's. I used the futaba's for the elevator, I had these 2 servo's for my revo setting in a tool box so why not use them, but they are heavy. Because I am using a Spectrum Radio I worry about useing a 4.8 volt rx battery. that 4.8 volts is just to close to the receivers 3 volt cut off for me. Any thoughts on this would be nice also. I also understand that Tower hobbies has purchased goldberg and Lanier. I have found that when they run out of these planes they are gone for ever. I was lucky or I should say my son was lucky and he got himself the 93 inch Yak lanier had, I tried to find one of these, they are gone, if this is whats going to happen to this Goldberg Edge I am buying a few more for myself, I do like this plane I would not use the Fuji 64A engine on this plane, simply for the horsepower to weight ratio. The engine is very heavy for this size and type of plane, and really won't perform the way you want it to. If you really NEED to go with a gasoline engine, I would suggest using sometihing around 40-50cc range, (light weight 50cc). The Fuji BT43-EI is an engine that is recommended for this plane, (along with the O.S.1.60 FX) but I've heard of some issues that need to be addressed to get it running right. The other engine that comes to mind is the Brilleli 46GT. Good running engine, less weight, and plenty of power for the 77 inch planes. I'm currently flying a Goldberg 77 inch Extra 330 with a Moki 1.35 glow engine, throwing around a 17X6 prop. It flys great. Plenty of power, light weight, and keeps the plane very manueverable. If I decide to build up another 77 inch plane, I wouldn't hesitate to use this engine again. I would also recommend using it, as well as the Moki(Mark) 1.80, or the O.S 1.60. And if you want to really juice up this plane, the Mark 2.10 is really hot. Again for the same reason, plenty of power, light weight. I'm a little concerned about the servos that you're using. I think you would be better of with higher torque, metal geared servos for this size plane. The ones you have in there now, are just above standard, and have nylon gears that may strip out under high stress load manuevers you my exert on the control surfaces. The Hitec HS 645MG, or the JR Sport ST 126MG servos are what I would recommed accross the wing, (I'm assuming you've got 2 per aileron) and 2 in the elevator. I think you're using the pull/pull sytem for the rudder, you could go with 1 or 2 Hobbico CS-150 digital, or use the Hobbico CS-170. Both are very good servos, and are great if you're on a budget. I'm using both of these servos in some of my planes, and have had no worries about failure. You are also concerned about the 4.8 volt battery you're using, with the Spektrum 2.4 gHz rx. I recommend getting a 6 volt NiCd, or NiMh battery to use. Get one with a mAh rating of 2000, or 2700, and you should be ok. The 6 volt system will sqeeze all the power out of the servos, and because you've eliminated all the digital servos (DS821) You should get more time on the battery. I hope this was helpful. Let us know how it's going . Ken
