Thats great you replaced your Eagle, I am replacing my Edge, waiting for it to arrive hopefully anyday.
The G38 is magneto type engine, I believe something went south in the radio. The battery still had a full charge after this crash. I have noticed with the JR radio I am using, its the DX6i, that sometimes the receiver blinks after turning eveything on, and I must shut off receiver then transmitter, and turn on transmitter then receiver again to get what I call a clean bind. The problem with this is, when everything is mounted in the plane, I can't see the receiver and have no idea if its blinking or not, this worries me alot, I do not want to loose another plane, there wasn't anything left of my edge so all equipent is new.

I like your plane, where is it you fly. I lived in Pacific Grove Ca. and looks like you are on the northern coast of Ca.
I really feel I lost my plane do to radio failure and not battery or anything like that. It was a new plane only about one month old, it had about 1 gallon of gas ran through it.
Also do you only use futaba servo's, I allways use 3305 metal geared servo's, I have found some rather inexpensive gear driven servo's made by tower pro, have you ever heard of these, or would you put them in a plane of any size?
At 35 bucks a pop for servo's stocking a big bird with 7 to 10 servo's can get expensive, expecially when they only make it for one month before they are lost, I was able to reuse 2 sevo's out of 9. the others were ruined, locked up solid.

Hey Supercharged,

How's the build going? You will be fitting a gas engine in yours, right?
In order to make my DL-50 fit properly, I had to take an inch off the mounting box. The engines standoffs were too long, unfortunately, so I had to work on the timber side.
The plane has close to 400 flights now and I have tuned the engine to the point that's reliable yet very strong and moved things around so my plane's balance is good for 3d and quite stable for IMAC style flying.
Keep us posted on the progress.

Sniper,
The cowl is sufficiently wide to fit DA 50, a DL-50 or any 50cc gas engine even a twin, I think. It measures 22 cms wide.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. You may have to dremel out the sides of the cowl to allow for the sparks and cables. It could be done but it wouldn't look too pretty.

Hi, I just bought my self an edge 540 77", and wondering around found this thread.

I wanted to know if any one can fill me in with any building tips, tricks.or any recomendation. I will replace most harware with dubro. and use hitec digitals on the plane. I havent bought servos yet. but I plan using 1 servo per wing.

I was going to get a dl-50 but couldent pass up on a great deal for a GF50I its the CRRC 50cc with the side intake and red head.

Building my Edge was straight forward and about the only significant mod was adapting the firewall to take my DL 50 because I wanted to use that engine with the standoffs provided. I had to chop 1 inch off of the length of the mounting box. Other than that, the build was as per the manual. I used all of Goldberg's hardware minus the pull-pull rudder system as I had to place the rudder in the back for balancing issues.
The power my Edge has with the DL 50 is insane and I wouldn't want to fly her with anything less. Truly spectacular up-lines that can go forever. The plane has mild wing rocking when doing a positive harrier and almost none when switching to negative. Hovers are really easy to do. Xoar 22X8 does the trick. Good luck with yours!

great to hear that. I also understand you have over 400 flights on yours. with stock harware and one servo per wing. then mabye the stock hardware is ok to use. I was thinking I will ad weight with upgraded hardware, so I think all weight to receive the plane to look at the hardware before buying aftermarket. what about spinner, what spinner sizr do you have? and can I see more pics of your plane if you have any please.

Thanks

I've been flying my Edge with and without a spinner. I'm considering getting a 3 1/2 inch Trueturn because it's important to have quality in the nose. I have used cheap, plastic cones but I would not advice going that way.
The plane is really strong in every area and can withstand less than perfect landings, lots of them. By now, it probably has over 500 flights and aside from some peeling off the chinacote, especially around the leading edges, the bird is in one piece and none of the hinges/movable parts show sign of wear.
About the 1 servo per wing thing, if you use a strong servo, like an affordable HItec 645 MG, you should not have issues at all. I placed my servos in the outboard position. The plane is a sweet roller and in fact it does everything quite nicely. Here are a few pics.

I just saw the tru-turn spinners in the 3 1/2" size and they are $65 and up. the only one I think would work nicely was a $75 P-51 3.5 oz and cut for big props.

Thanks for the pics, Ill wait till I receive the plane to see the hardware but if you used the stock hardware and have over 500 flights on the plane then you have one of the best planes ever built and your one of the best pilots ever to fly, usualy most 3d planes I know dont last that long.

I was worried about the hardware because ther is a post her on RCU about a goldberg yak 77" haven one of the horn screws split in 2 parts ON THE GROUND.
aperanly the plane never flew, and just because of the engine idleling the screw broke.

Ill go over the plane with my iron when I recieve it and I was thinking of going over the wing leading egde with some clear monokote.
