Not all birds are created equal at the wing tube. It's best to measure and calculate. I usually set mine at 30% of the wing chord, but depends on the airplane. With this airplane, one can stay with the recommended C of G and have real good results.
Good luck,
Darrol

well I have started building mine, sofar I am verry happy with everyting but the covering. I had to iron the hole plane and noticed it has verry little overlap in many places, so little that in 2 spots I shrank the covering and wood was exposed, not a big deal. The hardware is fine but I did replace all the control horn screws with shorter stainless steel ones. I still dont know what I am going to do with the gas tank because I want to put it at the CG but It just dosent fit with the rudder servo plate there. I will use a small aluminum plate to strenthen the 2 piece landing gear.

I have some pics of the build I will post soon, I still want to run my engine on the bench an hour or so before I mount it on the plane, but over all I am verry happy with the plane and it looks beautyfull verry colorfull but the bottom does kind of look like a taxi.

I was also thinking of doing some McDonals stikers for it, because of the colors.

Pape,
I cut the rudder servo tray back. Most of the tank is on the C of G. I had to put some rails in to anchor the tank to.
Good Luck,
Darrol

I cut the rudder servo tray out, moved it back one section. Built a light ply tank tray and mounted a 16oz under the wing tube. If you're running glow, it's too small, but you could run dual tanks for a glow if you're not gonna put a gasser on the front.

Ya, I found that covering to be the worst I've ever seen.

I also took out the servo tray. I used acetone and it came right of with no damage to the frame. I also just finished building the 16oz tank am going to use instead of the included one.

about the servo tray I dont know yet. I whant to see how the model balances with the engine and all accesories and see if mabye I mount the servo in the tail instead of the pull pull.

I am aslo thinking about batteries for the RX. I will use one 1600 NMHI or mabye use a bit larger batery.

Darrol, you're absolutely right. My Funtana X100, for example, has the wing tube way forward and not at all by the CG. On my Goldberg Edge it happens to be by the wing tube.

On another note, am I the only dude that put the rudder servo in the back? I had to, to compensate for the extra weight courtesy of the DL 50.
Balance is ideal, IMHO.

Edit, I see PAPE has also used the tail servo position. With 10 kgs of torque (645 MGs) it's KE all around the field.

doublesixes,
Mine balanced perfectly with only the elevator servos in the tail. I used a MT50cc for power and a Hitec 755 servo for the pull pull rudder. Battery packs are a head of the C of G 7 or 8 inches.
Good luck.

PAPE,

Take a look at the A123 batts from hypersonic... I made the switch earlier in the summer and have them in all my planes now. 6.6v 2300mah, Faster, lighter, better discharge curve, mine have never taken more than 10min to charge at the field either. Make for less downtime, more uptime. They're a little more $$ than the NiMh and the NiCads, but well worth it IMO.

66 I still havent installed the servo in the back. I want to mount the engine and all the other stuff and see if I need tail weight, then if I do I will install the servo in the tail.

Engine crrc gf50i
servos 5985 ruder 5645 all others
16 ounce tank
1200mha NIMH ign battery
1600mha NIMH rx battery (might change)
all stock hardware exept the control horn screws (changed to SS) and sulivan clevises.

hk the III ESQ as for the batts I have reserched about this many times and I really havent seen the need for a change in my rx air batts. I do fly small lipo electrics abd the batts are great light and small but for my air rx's I always use a small capacity NIMH and recharge every 2 flights, dont need a regulator nor other chargers. " I have even flown a 33% scal on a single 1600 NIMH that used 8 non digital servos.

PAPE,
I agree with your choice of battery packs. A 600 mah 4.8 battery pack with run a single cylinder 50cc engine for 2 hours. Wow 2oz. with no regulators for 2 hours. 2000-2500 mah 6 volts will fly most of the day.
Good luck,
Darrol

Since maiden I have used this battery arrangement:

The RX is a 2s pack (1800 mAhs) with Deans connectors and the ignition pack is 4s (1700 mAhs) nicad.
Lipos are regulated to 6V by a 6 Amp Align regulator.
I can fly all day long (about 8-10 flights) without charging the packs at the field. I use analog servos, Hitec 645 MG, which draw less current than digital. That's maybe the reason I can be in the air more than 90 minutes on a charge.
This combo has well over 600 flights and has never given me any problems.
I place both packs, held together by rubber bands, in the rear tray. They are secured to the tray by Dualsky Velcro straps.

Sorry, I was going to post pics but RCU doesn't allow it.

It's a shame because this is a great flying plane and it's built to last. I have by now over 600 flights.
Not sure why Goldberg/Tower are not producing this Edge any longer. It's a proven design that delivers.
I'm sure that there are other great offerings in this size but this Edge is a pleasure to fly.

I know this was discussed before but I wanted to ask you.

is your edge perfectly balanced when held from the wing tube???

I balanced mine according to the instructions, everyone at the field said it was tail heavy, I removed all ballast I put in her to balance like instruction said.
I never checked the balance point after this. I am in the proccess of building another 77 inch edge, I purchased the last one from tower.
I belive in order to do the 3d flying this plane is meant to do, balance it according to instructions, to just sport fly balance her a little more to the front.
This plane flies great. I can not wait to put my new one back into the air, It will be 2009 before I fly this new one.
Good luck and keep me posted as to how you balance her and how she flies.

Even though you are not asking me.
My CG is at 4.625 inches behind the leading edge It flies perfect for me. I had to move my battery forward of the wing tube to get this CG.

I think I started with 4.750 (wing tube center) but it climbed on an inverted 45.

hope this helps.
