If they are brand new boats, you should not be going full throttle at all. You need to run about six tanks of fuel through the engines to get them broken in. What I do...is set the HSN at 3 turns out. I run two tanks through it at this setting. After the second tank, I go in an eighth turn and run another tank. I keep doing this until the engine is broken in and running well. If the motor is gettig up on pipe in the first few tanks (normally won't), I back out of the throttle so it is not going full throttle. There is a lot of friction in the first few tanks that won't be there after the engine is broken in. So you need to take it easy on the engine while breaking it in.

After about 4 or 5 tanks you will see it pick up in speed. At about 6 or 7 tanks it should pretty much be broken in and running well. Most of the AQ engines I have got seemed to run well at about 2.25 to 2.50 turns out on the HSN when they are freshly broken in. For some reason, as the engines get wore out, they seem to like richer settings until they finally let go. As a general comment, running the engine a little rich is a lot better than running it lean (it will last a lot longer). So once you find the boats fastest needle setting, you might want to back it out an eighth of a turn to run a little rich.

Just my 2 cents, I am sure if you ask 10 different people how to do it, you will get 10 different answers.

As to props...I got a lot of cavitation from the stock plastic prop...but as I recall, it was mainly just in the turns. Another guy told me that he pushed the prop deep to keep it from cavitating. I run the Octura Y535s on my kids boats at about 3/4 of an inch deep (bottom of the hull to the center of the stuffing tube where it goes into the strut). I used to turn the steering a little back and forth if it cavitated during the launch. Might just be in my head, but it seemed to help the prop grab a little better.

Hope this helps,
Sean

Thanks for the input Sean, but i cant even get it on plane long enough to go anywhere, We give it a good toss its starts off on plane then falls off, plows through the water and practically sinks it self. I understand what your saying about not having the full power there, but i cant even get it onto plane and both boats are doing this.

Is anybody besides me still curious of the mods that Russ did to make the Aquacraft .18 faster? Sure, it voided the warranty but some of us don't care!
Come on Russ, time to tell us. I could see where the OS .18 carb could help as it's larger than the Aquacraft.

With the stock prop, try running the prop depth at 7/8" below the bottom of the boat.

Russ is in China at this time. I installed the O.S. VZM in the boat Russ now has. There were no mods to the hull.

Jerry, way back towards the start of this thread he mentioned a mod that would void the warranty so he must have done something internally to wake it up a little more. I'm kind of thinking intake timing on the crank or some sleeve work.
Oh well, I guess that we're going to have to wait for him to get back home.

I think he was talking about removal of the head shim, the transfer ports on these engines are pretty small so I remove some material and conture the port and sleeve for better flow, between that and a exaust port and header alignment we picked up some rpm ,,,,,,=more speed he he

I dont know what LS stands for...but best I can figure, it just means 27 CC gas engine or smaller. The site Ron linked sells engines..both stock and modified.
