A little update... Went to start the engine for the boat for the first run of the day and noticed gas pissing all over the place when i started filling. The tank had completely spidered and went all bubbly in the corners. No fuel was ever left in but i believe the culprit was the rubber bands i used to hold the filler lid down a little more. After gluing in a new tank and re working everything, i had a look at the cylinder head, piston and lining. The top of the head and piston are not burnt or scored, they are a dark bronze colour. The liner has no marks in it as well, so i know i havent cooked the engine with it loosing power. It ran good, then everything started to fall apart. Gas tank came loose after being glued in (my fault) my exhaust coupler melted and came off. (I disconnected the header cooling coil to see if i had stuff in it) and my throttle arm on the carb came loose and wouldnt control the barrel. this boat is awesome when its running, but frustrating trying to get to do so... i was running my other boat too and everything went to crap on it too.. i would never buy a tiger drive... the one way bearing spun right out of the gear.... Oh well guess good weather and perfect water is a curse to run rc boats...lol...

Hey guys i just picked up a MV today. I already ran 5 tanks through it taking it easy and breaking in the motor. Tomorrow im going to take her out and fine tune it. I already have a sharpened and balanced y535 on order and i already picked up a copper pipe. I know i have to modify the mount to get that to fit. But what else do you guys recomend to make the beast get into the 40's? i was thinking about cutting out the top back hole of the cannopy for better airflow and stuff after reading this thread. Im running 50% nitro/18% oil Anything else?

There's about 4 mph in modifying the sponsons. The boat should run 40 with stock sponsons and the Cooper pipe.

Yea im not sure if i want to hack up the hull just yet. Im thinking about Getting the **** turn fin, lighter collet, and rudder. Also getting the cooling coil from a NV for the header. Then put on the cooper pipe and keep running 50% nitro. Should i remove the head shim with 50% nitro? Also how are you guys adjusting the angle on the prop strut? I can only get mine to adjust up and down. I see that 3/4in is a good adjustment with a y535. Is that from the top of the brass tube to where the middle of the hull ends?

Stock, with some elbow grease on the stock hardware and a Y535, it will go about 34-35MPH. Best I have seen GPSed was 35.2 MPH. That was on 40%, so you should be able to get a little faster than that using 50%. Hopefully you will see more than that with the cooper pipe too. My guess would be high 30s.

If your goal is 40 MPH, and you want to keep using the stock motor...you probably need to listen to Jerry...

Another options is the CVRM. The CVRM should take your boat into the low 40s with no modification to the ride surfaces of the hull.

As to cutting on the cowl...most folks cut out the back of the fake turbine exhaust, and cut out the inlets to the two little hood scoops toward the front. If you remove the flotation when you cut out the rear of the cowl, make sure you add some back in. Remember, all it needs to do is keep your cowl from sinking...so you don't need much, but make sure you test it before you realize you don't have enough.

If you plan on racing, check with your local club to see what they will allow you to do and still remain in the "stock RTR" class before you do any mods. An aftermarket rudder would put you in the mod class where I have run.

The collet you are looking at, is an octura collet. The benefit has little to do with weight, and more to do with it being a better piece of hardware. Their (the banned place you tried to mention) comment about it not taking two different size wrenches is not true. It does take two different size wrenches, and why it would be a positive, if it took only one...I dont know. It sells for $10 at most places. www.Offshoreelectrics.com has them for $9.95.

hey fellow racers dchass here i was trying to right a bunch off stuff about the mv mod that i've done to mine well it alittle hard to say because you deffunitly won't be able to run in the stock class idid not cut out the bottom because the more you start puting epoxy's or rezon in the boat your ganig weight you dont whant .I have the stock rudder on it but i cut it to the water picup and a little work with a file thining the blade alot but not to much take out the bottom bolt on ruder goto nylon so it sheres easy the ruder will weigh less than any after market one you canbuy i made my own turnfin like the one we design on ower competitor rigers gas an nitro it works awssum. sorry abut so many run sentences . back to boats i have done no sponsun mods the only thing i done to the bottom off the hull is block it with 600 grit wet sand papper from a auto motive paint store . i drilled holes in the corner off every sponsun and the cinter peace of the hule and the back. and took out the foam on the sides of the hull the only foam in the boat is the front sponsun. so if your boat dies doring a race or just practis and some one hits it.It not exsposed to much and when it runing there is no water traped in it so that means less weigt less drag on the water.i all so made my own radio box that liter an itdont even stick out the top of the hull .it flush so it has less drag i bin playing with cyle designs and made my own stainless fule tank thats gose up aganst the front factory mount but the back one took out and i dont have a pickle on the front any more with the aqau craft 18 i done a couple of engine mods to the sleave and the crank and block and back plate with a copper pipe 60% NITRO it will do 43mph all day long note every thing you do can make difference. just watch out what you do i resently put my 21 ops procorsica and it running in the 50t's.im trying to get in the 60t's well ifany qestions right i mite have to take a pic a post it on here
