I would expect more from your CVRM after you run 1 gallon or 2 through it. These more powerful engines REALLY need to be properly broken in!

thanks for all the tips, i will be taking the motor apart to see if i damaged it, hope not! i got it for a song, but still, i hate it when i do stupid things.....

as far as cooling the header, yes, i was, but it seemed that it would not flow well when i went through the head and the header coolant line. once i removed the header line from the loop, just head only, it flowed better. i am even using 1/4" od silicone tubing for the lines, and yes, they are attached with slices of tubing to hold them on. it wasn't burning up zip ties, like it did with the aqua motor, so i left good enough alone for the day, of course i will check everything out when i take her down, didn't want to waste any boatin' time while i was out.....

thanks again folks,

davey

well, I have been racin my cvr-m for 2 year's never a problem, ever, it totaly rip's, I run my stock G1 hull, with only mod's to the stock turn fin, rudder and strut, I have had two other vegas's and neither of them will run like my first boat, for some reason, this piticular one, just flat out rip's, no other vegas that anybody has that I have ran across can keep up with it, even some that have had all the hull trick's just dont do it, I dont know why, but holy crap it fly's, and YES proper break in is essential to that .18 engine, I have 2 of them, I run it in with at least 1/4 gallon of fuel on the bench with a water hose attached to it, it run's for like 2+ hour's drive's the neighbor nut's but, they last!!

Hey guys,

Just picked up an O.S. TZ .18 for super cheap, but it has the "P" crank on it. Does anyone know of a solution to mount a coupler on this without having to replace the crank?

The "P" or SG crank can be cut but there won't be a lot of threads left so the flywheel may have to be thinned. I think that it's 7mm threads but can't tell you for sure.
A buddy did this to an OS .12 and didn't have quite enough threads to bite into. The result was 2 flex cables, props and other parts that are at the bottom of Spring Valley Lake. Half of the parts were mine!
I think that the "P" is actually for the pull-start version, not the crank.

As an aside, I'm on vacation next week so give me a call if you want to. I'm in the phone book.

I've got a big Honey-do list for next week but plan on escaping for a day up in Grandville at the new club pond on Tuesday weather permitting. Other than that we could possibly meet up down at the "Toxic Pond" for a while or wherever you normally run at. Most of the places where I usually go are now getting loaded up with weeds or lily pads.

i always wondered how many threads actually stick out on a 'p' crankshaft in a marine application, as i have seen some potential motors, but i always veered away from them due to the length issue. i can machine down flywheels, i just have never seen one mocked up up close, so i don't really know what's there.....

also, i alway thought the 'p' stood for 'pilot' shaft, and the 's' or 'sg' stood for 'short' crankshaft.... who knows, eh?

The "p" does stand for pilot shaft. I might just hack it off and then machine a new flywheel for it and try to find a coupler with the correct threads or re-tap one to fit. I just didn't want to have to go through all that. I might just end up selling it and finding the correct motor.

Yup, you got me on that one! Too many engines, too few brain cells.
I see that OS made 4 models of the TZ .18, http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg2110.html

well, you could buy this crank: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJPY8&P=Z or, you could machine a flywheel to fit, the proboat one is a nice brass piece to start with, and cheap, i use them on some of my boats: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PRB2215

of course i don't have one in front of me, but i think the threads on the pilot shaft crank are maybe the same thread as the regular crank? once again, i am just guessing, but if it is, i think machining a new flywheel might be an easy and cheap attempt to make your motor work.........

I can see why you really don't want to change crankshafts after looking up the price on Tower's site, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=OSMG4448&search=Go but after us losing more than that in parts to the Pond God's it might be worth the cost. All in all it would make things a lot easier.

I agree, I think I'm going to sell the TZ and buy a CVR instead (If I can find one), that way I can use regular plugs instead of the expensive turbo plugs. Anybody have an extra CVR laying around they want to get rid of?

it' up to you, but i just got a TZ and a CVR, and the TZ sure is a screamer. just my two cents? i'd roll with the TZ if you have the time and $$$ to fab it all up to work....

I had to replace my plastic prop with a new one after I broke it. After I had it on I noticed in the owners manual that there should be a 3mm gap that I didn't leave. Now I'm trying to back it off and am have a lot of trouble. I loosened the nut and the allen wrench screw and still can't get it to budge. What am I doing wrong?
