ORIGINAL: rwilson1047 I am currently in the process of buying my first hydro - Miss Vegas. I have been doing a lot of research and have read a lot of threads that have influenced my decision. I appreciate all of the ideas to make the boat faster. I probably won't start all of that until I have a few tanks run through it. I intend to modify the boat a little at a time as funding allows. The one thing I am not sure about, and it may be discussed in this thread (I haven't read all of it), is why most people remove the rear fins. Being an old airplane guy, it seems to me like this would add stability to the boat, especially in light chop. So, you guys that have removed them, what was your reasoning behind it? Love the discussion and ideas, Thanks, Roger speaking for the masses on the most part, i think it;s safe to say that most people do it for the weight removal. i can't remember the amount, but it was ounces. i also remember reading that the effects of the wing don't really come into play until higher speeds, like maybe 45 and up,(?) but it seems the boat does just fine with or without at stock speeds or even 10 plus mph above, without issue either way. i just removed mine, as i lost the wing adjustment set screw while out, and i kinda like it all sleek for now. (i love it on, makes a great look, just nice to have the option to change it up once in awhile...) i just put a .21 into it, so i think i'll leave it like this for the next tuning session out......... it's a great boat, handles chop way better than a proboat, it's easy to work on, i love it............. davey edit sean beat me to it!!! good info sean, thanks for the weight, etc......
