Got the strut slot cut,and back on the boat. Raised it 1/16 inch,zero pitch on the strut,will try it out this evening,and report back. Ron

I just got a used Miss Vegas and after running .5 gallons of 33% nitro through it I can only get it up to 20 MPH?? I have really tried to adjust the needle and prop but it never seems to rev high while going stragiht (it revs much higher in corners). Do you think the motor could be bad? Is there a way to test compression? I also tried the octura prop an it seemed to rev even less while going straight.

I wanted to pick up a new prop "metal" and was going to go with the Octura Y535 after reading some of the reviews of it on this thread. My queston is does it come ballanced and sharpened.

You can buy them balanced and sharpened from places like offshoreelectrics.com ...but they do not come that way from the factory. Someone has to do it...

Got some runs in last night. The boat keeps getting faster,with each adjustment, now it just waves Bye Bye to the SV 27 Brushless . I still pick up a little more speed in the turns,yet so I guess I'm not high enough on the strut yet? Also I pulled a dumb stunt and launched my boat with the reciever off! It just idled across the lake,and hit the "ONLY" peice of concrete on the shore line. It chipped the paint on the front of the sponsons,but I've found a touch-up paint that really comes close (you have to look real hard,to see the diffrence) to the aquacraft orange. You can get a applicator (small bottle with a brush,like for auto's) from your area Kubota Tractor dealer (Kubota Orange). I still don't know why aquacraft dosen't offer touch-up paint. The Kubota Orange also comes in small spray cans,so you can cover a larger area of damage. Ron

Are you picking up speed, or RPMs in the turns?? It is normal for a 2 blade prop to slip a little in the turns (pick up RPM) but the boat should go faster in the straights.

Sean,it's pretty hard to tell. I don't have a GPS (next purchase)but, when racing the SV,I now pull away down the straights,and really pull away faster in the big wide turns. So I'm not sure if I'm at the optimum setting or not. I can take the outside lane,and still pass him going wide. You can see the boat jump (or accelerate) hard in the turns. Ron

I raised the strut,another 1'16 inch,and it ran better yet! The speed is constant,and it dosen't seem to pick up any speed in the turns now. The roster tail is about the same all around the circut also. I have a friend that has a radar gun,and we are going to get some readings next week. He radared the SV 27 Brushless a couple of weeks ago,and it was running 37-39mph,so I really don't know what my MV is running yet,can't wait to find out. Ron

I am currently in the process of buying my first hydro - Miss Vegas. I have been doing a lot of research and have read a lot of threads that have influenced my decision. I appreciate all of the ideas to make the boat faster. I probably won't start all of that until I have a few tanks run through it. I intend to modify the boat a little at a time as funding allows.

The one thing I am not sure about, and it may be discussed in this thread (I haven't read all of it), is why most people remove the rear fins. Being an old airplane guy, it seems to me like this would add stability to the boat, especially in light chop.

So, you guys that have removed them, what was your reasoning behind it?

Roger...I have heard a few different theories on removing the wing. One has to do with saving weight...which makes sense, since the boat kind of runs a little tail heavy. The other has to do with aerodynamics...had a person tell me he did not think the wing pieces/parts were quite straight, and affected how the boat would track at full speed.

I only did one GPS test to test the difference...and the boat was .5 MPH faster with it off. Not much of a difference if just running for fun...but can be a big difference if running for speed. The weight of the wing on my boat was 5.3 ounces. Think of folks that are spending lots of $$$ to change out radio gear to save less weight than that...
