I have read about a lot of people having problems with their gas tanks cracking. Mine broke off at the top where the hose connected to the engine is. Has this happened to anyone else? I did'nt even touch it so it must have been from the vibration. Oh, and what's the deal with all the stores and websites being out at the same time? Where are they made?

The stock gas tanks are junk, replace it with a sullivan 6 or 8oz. tank. Mine barely made it through a quart of fuel before it needed replacing.

I will see if I can take a good picture of the tank to show the cracks. it also seems to melt the inside of the tank and makes it slightly milky white in color. even the under side of the cap is affected. It took 2 tanks of fuel to start to see the effects, it took 4 tanks for it to actually not hold fuel. and the boat is only 1 month old.

Do you have a pick of it and is it shaped like the one that comes in the MV?

Go to tower hobbies website http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFU50&P=0

It will take a slight modification but it will work great and last a long time. You will also have to get a fuel bulb or fuel pump to use because it doesn't have a flip open top.

The fuel bulb is found here: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFU12&P=0

like pilot said,

you will have to do like most of us did and go with a Sullivan tank.
thats one of the reason we keep saying to read or browse this whole thread, everything about the tank problems are there and pictures with sullivan tanks setup also.

I know there's a lot but its worth it.

Dan.

Yeah, I have skimmed most of this thread but there is a ton of info here. Would you by any chance know what page # some of the fuel tank stuff is on?

here's what I was able to find on short notice

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4361937/mpage_47/key_/tm.htm#

I still use that same tank but have removed the plate (green plate under the tank) removed original wooden block and replace them with 2 new ones mounted differently than the original and use rubber bands instead of zip ties.

Yes it seems it would take an entire weekend to read this thread. one question though, how do you mount it to the boat so it doesn't move around.

I have glued 2 wooden blocks on either side of the tank and have screwed in 4 little brass hooks (2 on each side) than use rubber bands placed in an " X " to hold the tank.

I've noticed allot of threads on fuel tanks failing, but mine is like new, with a little less than a gallon of fuel through the boat? Could diffrent fuels be effecting the tank? I use Cool Power 30% Heli fuel, and it runs like a stripped %&^#@ snake! The tank looks like new sofar.I also got a O'Donnell temp gun,and checked my engine temps today. After 5 minutes of WOT it came in at 127.4 degrees. I couldn't believe how cool the engine was! Tore the engine down a few days ago,and no gum or carbon at all ! I might go try another fuel, but with the results I'm getting with this fuel,it will be hard to change to anything else. Ron

my best guess is there is/was a bad batch. i have several in use, one in a proboat, a very used one in my vegas, and a backup one. no problems anywhere other than the spring being weak, fixed with attaching a piece of 3/8"s ply square block under the spring. i have used four or more kinds of fuel as well. i like 'em. flip top makes for a quick pit..........

i have two sullivan's just sitting until these take a dump......still waiting!

I also have about a gallon of fuel trough mine and the tank itself looks fine "no cracks". The only problem is that the little piece of plastic that the pick up line is attached to broke of inside the line. I pulled it out and there is almost enough left sticking up to re-attach the line but I'm not sure if it will hold.

although I have replaced my fuel tank I was able to go through 8 gallons before she failed while others around me never lasted a full gallon.

since replacing with a Sullivan tank I have never looked back.

Yeah, there's NO Doubt the Sullivan is a better tank. I've used them for years in planes with no problems.I haven't heard of any issues with the pro boat tank though. I do like the lid (filler cap) system, though compared to using a pump, and disconnecting a fuel line (just lazy ).As far as the spring failing,I only lift the "lid" around 45 degrees, insert the filler bottle neck in and fill her up. I think some guy's are forcing the lid back too far (past 90 degrees, and weakening the spring),the ply block is a good idea too! Ron
