need tuning help.

I could not get a decent run again tonight.tried the strut up, then down.rudder tucked then out.
odonell red dot,os#8 which had been working well in this boat.

Checked everything i could think of.Needle out bogged needle in it went lean could not find the sweet spot.it seemed to get worse once i had 2 laps aprox 300'running in .

Clean fuel system, coupler went but i replaced it for the 5th time.tuned pipe is clear head bolts tight, compression seams good on the recoil starter.Starts well, prop not damaged.cable greased.

Tonight when i came home i cleaned the carb. found no dirt.back to the pond Thursday night

I am willing to check anything

Terry

you really should take the time to polish and balance your prop, it can be run out of the bag but think about this, you go get new tires for your car and skip the balance job sure you might get a set of real good tires but chances are your not and your ride will vibrate >eventually< leading to flat spots and worn suspension parts! Same type of thing with your prop not balanced!

i only mentioned the rooster tail because at a boat club meeting i went to sunday, all the boats were 1/8 scale gas boats and they were shooting some big rooster tails...

It was probably a good thing to not try to run with them. The gas sport hydros being run in district 12 and others are way faster than the Proboat offerings that others may be familiar with. I've run my sport 40 with the gassers and while it can hold its own speedwise, the wakes from the larger and heavier gas boats do create an extra challenge. Hopefully the person I've put you in touch with can help resolve some of the issues you encountered.

Oh, and you definitely should at least do a rough balance on the prop before using it. I've seen some props that were pretty close right out of the bag, but others that were quite far off. The vibration from an out of balance prop won't be good for the driveline or radio components.

Im with piper on getting a balancer! Some small files and sandpaper of various grits, if you dont want to buy something to polish them super fine paper can get you close.

the fastest prop I have is my best ballanced one.. its not all shiny and it should not be anyway.. it sould have a skuffed finish..

Ballance is WAY more important then sharpend... but.. always shapen.

Top-Flite has a nice magnetic one for about $20.00 that they use for plane props. It's almost too sensitive for boat props. LHS's or Tower Hobbies carry it. Robart has another that isn't too sensitive.

Dat be da one! It's hard to beat for the money as comparable ones can go for upwards of $50.00 but those are just fancier looking. It quickly breaks down so that you can toss it in your toolbox.

That balancer works good and even a newbie like me can balance a prop.I have done a couple and it works great but yes ultra sesitive.

Anyone have some help with my tuning issues above. It's off to the pond tonight to try and get it pulling well on the straights.

It was bogging and felt like it needed more fuel last night but I was running out of Daylight and things to try.

HELP

Terry,

What's your elevation? These little motors really lose performance as the elevation increases.

We're very close to sea level not exactly sure how many feet but that's not it jerry, my buddies is working excellent and we have been comparing setups for 2 evenings now.

I cleaned the carb. and set the thrust at c/l at 7/8" below the transom and I will be off to try it in a bit.
I did find a peice of plastic that was a bit alarming in the plastic intake where the fuel line gors into the carb.we'll see

I'll report back

I just got the white one $153 no shipping cost with Super Savers. I'll be interested to see what "moderate" damage is. Hey, I designed the dang thing I bet I can fix one. I plan to have it repainted anyway and white is the best choice for repainting.

Hard to believe "missing a prop nut" knocks something like $75 off the regular price.

Looked at the white one as well - Heck I build planes and spend more time repairing them, should be able to fix that one as well- But I figured that I would be drilling holes in the transom any way - so this I picked up the new missing drain plug!

Plus now I can afford the upgrades at Twisted - See you guys on the lake sometime soon!
