Been busy racing mine. After 3 of 8 District 8 Championship races, I have a slim points lead. There were 6 Vegas boats at our last District 8 race in Eugene, OR, over the Memorial Day weekend.

If anyone out there has any old AQ .18s with problems, as long as the engine is case and head are good and wants to get rid of them give me shout

No, but I sure enjoyed my time in Evansville at the 2007, I think it was 2007, IMPBA regatta. Great race site and watching the unlimiteds race on the Ohio was really terrific.

I think the deadline was Monday. You might go to internationalwaters.com and ask there. There is a thread under "Races and Results" titled "Evansville 2010"

Need to have IMPBA card handy also...

I think that it is close to the 200 boat limit...16 RTR's

There will be a race in September 25-26, and one in Mt Vernon Illinois in July...not sure of the exact weekend.

is there to much angle in the stuffing tube or is the engine sitting at an incorrect angle, most of the trouble with the aqua shafts ive been hearing is a poor solder joint, their not the best shaft in the world BUT thats not a trouble area with them, sounds to me like something is out of alignment also possibly not enough of a space is being left between the drive dog and strut..check those things

As Toyota said, defintely check the spacing between the dog and strut, when the motor torques up your flex shaft will tighten up (like twisting a towel) due to the torque, if you don't have enough clearance between the dog and strut, the flex cable will bind up to the strut causing the cable to break. I belive the distance should be 3/16" inch, make sure that there is plenty of clean lube on the flex also.

See now that the Aquacraft major engine parts are  NLA.

What is the engine replacement of choice?  CR-V?  TZ?   TZ seems to be a lot more work than the CR-V due the changed exhaust port.

I'm still running the Aqua .18 but i'm sure it will need a replacement at some point.....

Tower still sells the piston & sleeve, connecting rod and bearings which are the parts you are most likely to need to rebuild the Aqua 18!

Thanks BeaverBoy... I looked for the second time and see them available.  I must have missed in the first look - saw that the motor, head, pipe were NLA.  Should have looked closer to see the sleeve and piston.

Finally got and put in my Rum Racing after muffler.  Nice..takes the edge off the sound...neighbors are happy!

BTW, one of these day's we'll connect. .

Cheers,

Jeff

OK. Next question.

While running this weekend, the boat conked and a 'helpful' boater decided to retrieve it from me.  Before I could wave him off, he tried to lift the boat out via the antenna.   The antenna severed at the radio box and lost the plastic whip support - old style radio.  Donkey!!

So, couple questions.

How long is the antenna supposed to be?  I'm assuming there is an optimum / desired length based on the frequency.
I'm assuming that I can just solder and insulate in a replacement wire, any reason not?

Also, while on the topic, my factory radio box is showing problems with some cracks at the screws.  I'll do an archive search but I'm curious what the best replacement is.  Don't think I saw the box as an orderable part from Aquacraft...??

Cheers,

Jeff

As far as antenna I'm no help, I toss the stock radio as soon as I get it.
The radio box used to be listed at tower not sure if it still is. You can epoxy a 1\16" or 1\8" thick Aluminum Plate to the bottom of the box to Strengthen and seal it up. A 1" wide X 1\16" or 1|8" strip down each side will work also. If you don't have a Supply House to get the metal from, LOWES or Home Depot often carry a small selection of aluminum stuff.

OK.  Tried a different search on Tower and found the factory box.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMNG3&P=7

...and there are lots of antenna whips and wires at Tower.

Note to self:  Search first, ask second.

Epoxy a 1/16" plywood plate to the bottom of your radio box. End of cracking problems.
