First off get the right fuel...atleast 30%.....I have tested the Miss Vegas for 11 days straight 4 hours a day and not a muffler coupling issues yet...are you guys burning all you fuel or do you see it returning in your pressure hose from muffler to tank? This will flame the coupler..heat plus raw fuel!!!. Send in some pics of your testing rtayloria? But I would increase the nitro content to 30% Sidewinder fuel.

Re: Jerry has to order a boat

Actually, I'm ordering them for guys in our club. We're going to have another "Miss Vegas - Buds/Llumars/Elams Invited" race the 29th of July. We should have almost enough boats for two heats per round.

James,

Great information you've been providing on the "Miss Vegas." You might hold the record for run time on a "Miss Vegas." I'm going to be removing the floation from where it is and placing it along the side of the cowling. The back of the turbine cowling is also "history" once I get back into my shop. Who says, "You cann't teach an old dog new tricks?"

While I was at Evansville a spectator mentioned he had a Miss Bud for three years and had never started it. I offered to help him get it started and "long story, short" we ended up at his beautiful home outside of Evansville with a great pond for running the little hydros. I brought along a "Miss Vegas." His Bud was straight drive. We got his boat running and then I ran my "Vegas." He's planning to buy a "Vegas." Got a free steak dinner and more beer than I should be drinking out of the deal.

That's what I am here for and of course Twisted Liquid Racing plans to set a record with Miss Vegas..

I dont know what the deal is but I cant load pics to the messages here or I would show you the big changes for today on the Miss Vegas. One issue we wanted to over come was loss of rpm in the straights. The stock plastic prop for Vegas is nice but metal is better, but the Y535 is real heavy compared to the stock one, so I was thinking the weight of prop is killing my R's on the straights... WELL metal is better right? So I thought hmmmm...Small coupler off Miss LLamar, put on Miss Vegas, I will lose the weight to compinsate for extra weight on metal prop. First I took off that HUGE drive shaft coupler and replaced it with the Miss LLamar coupling. OK to do this there is one issue...URGH "there is always a issue in boats...if you new to this sport " ...the shaft in the Vegas is smaller then the Miss LLamars...ummm coupler problem!!!! Ummm NOT!!! There is nothing a Bud Beer can cant fix... I cut the beer can into 1/4 inch wide strip and wrapped it around the tip end of the shaft 1 1/2 times and cut excess off...making the shaft a mila-second bigger...just enuff to fill the space in the LLamar coupler. OK we also moved the fuel line connection on carb, around to other side of engine...to keep the fuel line from being near the exhaust...hey cooler fuel...and we added a little more brains to this test day....we put a two inch snokel on the carb to make the air intake higher in engine compartment...hmmm cooler air...are you getting my drift here? Cooler is better...So now we are off to the lake to test....47 was the speed yesterday....

Holy Jesus on a rubber tricycle according to Garmin hand held GPS...51.3 mph....
Taking the coupler nut off and replacing it with the LLamar coupler, makes this 18 run like a screaming #$% monkey!!! If you take the coupler off and the metal 535 and weight them, you will see why....the couple is the same weight as three props...meaning the Vegas was turning some weight...OK as far as the Bud Beer can holding up...Flawless...and when we did mantanance, it came right out. So if you see me at the lake and notice the strips of Budwieser can in my pit box....you know why.

We tested the engine for heat...and she was very cool to the touch after 9 minutes of runnig hard.... I did notice a better response time on trottle...I believe the injection from cool air helped this along with cool fuel....

just to explian my thought on cool fuel...i see my tank empty in the heat of the day and I notice it condisates and makes water...well without going on...water does not burn....so I think cool fuel..no water in my fuel....I noticed the engine ran like a dream...vibration and fuel consumption is down....but speed is up....I will put the pic on my prfile if they are not here....

P.S. Mr. Dunlap....a one dollar razor knife will remove you rear jet exhaust in two point two seconds...lol...on the lake mantanance..got to love it..

Jerry, did you notice how loud nitro boats are after a night of drinking a few? Yup, I found out the hard way. After a day of racing, I had Grimmie, Pat Kelly and some others tossing cold ones at me plus the fuzzy buddies that we had at the cabin. Work being a pit boss and retrieve boat driver and you really regret the night before!

Ron,

I knew "When to say when" so it wasn't all that bad. No way would I consider trying to keep up with the "Grimster."

Just stay away from Ernie LaFleur and his gang, they've always got COLD beer and their food is great, they had stuff cooking all week long.
I had to stop shortly afterwards when I found out that I got Type II Diabetes. At least we all drank the same brand. There was no way that I could keep up with Craig Chenco, those Aussie's can really put them away! He shared the cabin with Eric and I that week, had a heckuva time getting him up in the morning.
BTW, this was back at the `03 Internat's.

ORIGINAL: TwistedLiquid

Hello Miss Vegas Fans!!!

My name is James Barringer from Twisted Liquid Racing of Wichita, Kansas. I seen alot of post about my favorite boat the Miss Vegas, so I thought I would pass out my experiences with the Vegas. We took on the Miss Vegas as a recommendation from store owner of Finley's Hobbies in Wichita. Plus I liked the look of the Miss Vegas, as our newest Hydro race boat. We took our first boat home, after some sponsorship talk with the store owner... So I head home with our first Finely's Hobbies sponsored Miss Vegas. Immediately after opening the Miss Vegas. I notice a big difference in quality from our Miss Bud's and Miss LLamar's. Racing Hydro's for many years, I see many issues with the quality and engineering of the Miss Vegas, that I am sure AquaCraft will correct in the future. Please note the Miss Vegas is our first boat from !QUOT!AquaCraft!QUOT!. Below I list these issues, but please read more to hear the super out come of this boat. Miss Vegas Rocks!!!

1.) Paint job on boat...the paint job could be a bit more clean. It carried runs in paint, places were the fiberglass pinholes were not filled in. I also think that AquaCraft should consider using a flex additive in the paint...to reduce the number of stress crack we received from testing this rocket... The paint scheme is very cool, we are fond of the white and orange. Also the engine room should get a extra coat of resin to smooth up the interior for good easy cleaning after running. Lower maintenance is a plus.

2.) Engine....OK it kick's butt!!! We run 65%. Two thumbs up AquaCraft. But we seen issues during testing that can be avoided for only a few dollars. First was the engine bed. At first look I seen what I thought was not enough glass on engine bed blocks. This prove to be true after less then 8 tanks the engine came loose from the boat. I blame this on 3 flaws in design. the engine stand blocks do not have enough fiberglass to hold to boat under extreme conditions. So we added glass to beef up. Second is the driveshaft coupling. Holy Christmas...is it big enough Big and easy to get out of alignment when replacing the drive shaft after maintenance, causing a slight wobble...we believe this is the main cause for the engine coming loose. We order a new smaller coupling like the ones on the Miss Bud...slimmer and stainless... Last but not least...no rubber on engine to take out vibration. So we took the 18 AquaCraft and put her on rubber. Hey it's safe for sex right? Wow what a difference in the boat after this upgrade.

3.) Cockpit Air Flow....First off, the foam in the canopy should be moved to the sides of the canopy, because the way it is installed, it blocks air flow to engine compartment. So we removed. We also cut out the rear of the jet exhaust to open up the boat and we cut out the lower vents in the front off the cockpit to force air to go lower in engine room...helps cool that massive exhaust. We noticed after this the boat ran cooler and did'nt seem to have a air lock in the canopy anymore...caused the boat to cut the air better.

4.) Fuel pick-up and tank....Ok flip top lid...trash it...it leaks and is not really all that convenient. I am thinking it I can't unscrew a cap..boy what am I doing in boats...90% is screwing right...Ok to the gas tank. The pick-up hose was to long and the brass pick-up was flattening out on the bottom of the tank causing the boat to lose fuel...so we fix by making hose 1/4 longer and placing it on it side in the outside corner. Also we went off Flyers comment on the rubber band theory of holding the lid closed...cool it works, but new tank on the way...

5.) Exhaust....nice job AquaCraft!!!! only one issue here...the exhaust resting bracket behind the exhaust. again the vibration issue arised. So we did'nt cut the pipe or move the block...we killed the attacker...VIBRATION from engine. once we re-glued the block and rubbed the engine..she has held...

During test and tune of the Miss Vegas we experienced the above issues, besides the typical tuning you have to do with the boat riding right. We love AquaCraft for giving so many options to change the performance compared to water conditions. like the tail fin and the good hardware by GrimRacer. Hey that rudder took a 40 mph hit by trash in water and didn't break...only cracked the transom...Nice work GrimGacer. For our prop we chose a left hand Octura 535...he he same as our Miss LLamar....shoots a three foot rooster-tail and has excellent hole response. This boat is a head turner for sure...we have clocked her at 47 mph...we are pushing for 50. I have video I am getting produced now to show our testing and racing other hydro's. Below I have enclose some shots of our improvements and of course the finish 2006 Finley's Hobbies Sponsored Miss Vegas, By Aquacraft.

Thanks and nice to meet you all here!!

James,

Twisted...thanks much for all the tips on the Vegas. Keep 'em comming.

Are those just rubber washers you used on the engine mounting blocks or plastic or hard rubber, nylon... (im really grasping here). Exactly what were they?
Thanks!

Twisted,
Where exactly can you get a Miss LLamar coupler? I think its a great idea that I want to implement on mine. Also can you post pictures of the new coupler and your beer can shim you made?

I can't remember, are you running the stock engine and if so do you do anything to it?

Darla sent me this link for a flex cable collet for the Miss Bud/ LLumar/Elam:
http://myrcsupply.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=175&zenid=62a31eb62f5530e10139cbc8545e4b80
A LHS should be able to get you one through Horizon Hobby also. I normally would suggest the one from Octura but they are now making theirs longer so it would be harder to fit in there.
