Flyboy Dave, I just got an Ultimate Kaos off of E-Bay pristine in the box to go with the other Kaos's. I will indeed have quite the flightline when finished

a Bridi Killer Kaos! Powered by a OS 61FX. A sweet flyer. Aerobatic, yet slows down and floats in like a trainer.

Just my$ .02

Utter/Killer Chaos prop clearance with .91 4 stroke? - 1/30/2003 4:27:49 AM

I'm a 4 stroke guy for the most part, although I do have a couple of 46 2C's. I'd love to use a .91 4 stroke, but I'm a bit concerned about ground clearance for a 14x6 or 13x8 prop, especially since I fly off of grass.

1. Do you think it has enough clearance, or if not, what have you done on your plane to make this work?

2. Killer vs. Utter Chaos - key differences in how they fly? I noted that the open motor mount of the Ultimate looks more 4 stroke friendly perhaps.

3. Anybody have an email for Joe Bridi? I've called several times but no answer so far.

4. Are these planes retract-friendly? I have a trike gear set of SpringAirs handy.

Thanks

Joe Bridi's email is info@www.bridiradiocontrol.com. I havn't used it but that is what he gave me. Phone# (310) 326-5013. This is his home #. He is gone a lot and I don't think he has an answering machine.

As far as the engine cowling, I cannot speak for the ultimate, but with the Killer you glue balsa blocks and carve to shape. So, you can pretty much mount the engine any way you want and then build the cowl around it.

I am on the road but I will try to check for prop clearance on the "Killer" when I get home this weekend. ( mine is a taildragger)

Thanks, Ed. Looking forward to hearing back from on it. Sweet looking plane. Been ARF'ng so heavily that I feel guilty. Need to build something. 25 ARF's and only a handful of kits.

Is it an easy/quick building kit without much carving, or is it really time consuming? I stopped building "kits" about 14 months ago when I got really tired building my TopFlite Airacobra partway through. 30 hrs on the sheeted, curved tailfeathers alone! Too much like carving a plane out of a tree for me! Having a hard time getting motivated to do another kit, so I want it to be easy on me with great fitting parts that are already shaped like what they are supposed to be!

Dumb question: I have not had to do a carved cowl yet in my 30+ planes to date. With a carved cowl, is it removable? Do you leave the cut-out so large that the engine can be removed or....

Thanks!

....Sweet, man.....I love it....

RCAddiction....

1- use a 12-9 Zinger....
2- they all fly the same....perfect....
3- (answered)
4- forget the retracts....

It's an easy builder.....

I deviated from the plans a bit here. The instructions tell you to glue the blocks to the fuselage, I did not. I glued the blocks to the plywood nose ring in front while leaving the aft part of the cowl unnattached. Later, I glued hardwood blocks to the firewall so I could attach the cowl with screws. This took a little more time but now I have a removeable balsa cowl.

Once again, I will try to get a pic when I get home this weekend.

I have a modified tower kaos 60 (taildragger) that I use a saito 91 on. I use a Bolly 13.5 x 8 prop. The 14 x 6 will work but it does get pretty close to the ground and spped is better with the 8 pitch prop. See my gallery if interested in pic

Ed,

I'd like to see pics of how you did that cowl.I was planning on doing something similar on a great escape i have.

I called Mr. Bridi a couple weeks ago and he said he has everything thats listed on his website still. I'm still thinking about getting a killer chaos just to put on the shelf for when i cant get one anymore

I purchased one of the first Killer Kaos's ( built by Joe). The stab was mounted more forward than later kits (looked more like a "Cap 232" . He moved it back for more stability. Having liked the way my first one flew, I built all my others the same way. I just switched positions of the 3/8" filler block and the stab, and (since there was no longer a need for rudder clearance) added filler block to the elevator so it fit cleanly against the fuse and used a wire (like the aileron torque rod) to join the elevator halves.
The plane builds so quickly that the extra time spent on the elevator mod was hardly noticed.
Joe has retired and R/C Hobbies purchased all his tooling and is now making all the Bridi kits

I have not built any of their kits, but I have visited Joe's shop and theirs and they are very well organized and enthusiastic, so it should go well.

JETA,

Here is a pic of the cowl. I'm not sure what kind of pic you wanted but here one is. Just a balsa carved cowl that is removable.

Long Live The Chaos (Kaos)!!!!
