Can anybody who has built and flown both of these aircraft tell me what the differences are. Do they use the same airfoil? I have acquired an Utter Chaos kit an I am getting ready to put it on the bench. I would like to make a few minor modifications to include changing it to a tail dragger. If you have built and flown the Utter Chaos what engine recommendations do you suggest.

The Kaos planes have the airfoil / wing in common which is what maked it a Kaos. The tailfeathers are different from the original to the Utter model. The best tailfeathers were on the Ultimate which was distributed by Direct Connection. Bad fuse design which was very narrow and had a joint a the fuse side that was a real weak spot. A good 60 2S or a 90 4S is a good match for the plane. You may want to add some length to the landing gear as the newer engines will swing more prop than the original so clearance is a problem. I sold my Ultimate Kaos after about 300 flights complete with some added fiberglass and carbon fiber to keep the fuse together. Still have the plans which show the tail dragger (conventional gear) set up. Will send you a copy of that part if you need it.

CCRC1 I have built and flown the Killer Chaos and it flies great. I'm using an OS.50 and it is the perfect set up, plane weighs 4 LB 14 OZ ready to go(less fuel).
I just picked up an Utter Chaos and will use the same combo but wiill keep it a tricycle gear.
I love four strokes but on the Chaos series I think the OS.50 is by far the best choice. I live at 5,000 ft and I can hand launch my Killer when feeling frisky so power is not an issue.
Good luck and keep it light, that's the ticket to a great flying Chaos of any description.

Gary, go with the OS .50 you will love it trust me. The .50 weighs 17 oz with muffler and has 1.8 hp. The FX 61 weighs 23.6 OZ and has 1.9 hp. I know you can't always believe hp numbers but these should be relative and having seen both engines in action I believe them. I have two buddies here in Colorado and we all bought the Killer Chaos's at the same time and they all have the .50 and they ALL fly great! All three weighed right at 5 LB mine a little under as I chose to go with one aileron servo. All the .60 and 91 would do is add weight and you get no benefit.

Good luck and keep it light!

....no way I'd put a .50 in a .60 size pattern plane. If I
didn't have this pile of .60's at hand....I'd put a Tower
Hobbies .75 in it....side-mounted of course.

Flyboy, why do you need a .60 or .75 in a 5 LB plane? Besides, the OS .50 has the same power as the OS .60. I guess if you want a lead sled then your way ought to do it! :-)

Flyboy, looks like your coming up on midnight. Happy New Year!

We had a nice Fireworks display here tonight. It did interrupt my building though! Utter Chaos is coming along nicely!

Guys, have either of you flown the original KAOS, and how does it compare to the newer UTTER CHAOS. I have flown the original a long time ago and found it to be a solid performing sport plane! I was looking at a Saito .72 4s for mine. I have one in a Somethin Extra and it has power to spare. The Utter Chaos should be in the same weight range (5 - 51/2 pds). I know a lot of you are looking at SPA events so you can't use the 4s but I am looking for a solid, take to the field every time I go airplane.

Here's a couple of pics of Rob tossing the Kaos. The OS50 pulls it like a rocket,of course, under 5lbs doesn't hurt either. Jim
