Small problem. I bought a vacuum bagging kit which came with an 18"wide bag. The problem is I have a 20" wide wing..
Is it posible to join the plastic sheets with clear tape and still get a good seal?

U-Nav:

Use the "Industrial grade" 50 gallon trash bags. Easy, simple, and cheap.

You can do a pair, while the twins gasp for air.

Bill.

It would work better using a double-sided tape sealing the bag. Before buying a nice set up I have even used polypropylene film folded over (one less edge to seal) and I used standard latex caulking to seal the bag together. Just make sure that the nozzle location is not close to the caulking. It will get you by. No I use the bagging system from Aerospace Composites. Their bag clips really work nice.

Yep,
I bought the Aerospace Composites system but didn't think about how wide the chord is on a delta wing.

Six mil polyethelene sheet is available in hardware stores and garden supply outlets as plastic mulch. It is inexpensive and easy to work with. Just cut a rectangle of the length bag you want with twice the width. You can use almost any caulking to seal around three sides after the work is loaded and the sheet folded into a bag. I like MorTite caulking strips as they are not messy to apply. It is a lot easier to load a bag that is completely open rather than a tube. You can use a printer's roller to apply pressure to the caulking strip between the sheet plastic edges to insure a good seal. Wrap the vacuum line in caulking strip where it passes into the bag. The corner of the fold is a good place to put extra caulk and the vacuum tubing.

One extra tip. Make one end of the bag a little longer than needed and when finished bagging just cut that end off leaving the rest intact. That way you can reuse the bag and only have to seal the end you cut off.

To seal the bag, I use one of those plastic seal sets I use to put on windows for winterizing. It's a plastic channel in a channel and the plastic film goes in between. also reusable. Absolutely airtight It better be up here!

I work with composites for a living, 20 years now, vacuum bagging is simple, thick clear plastic will let you see work, and good duct tape for the edges, a good vacuum fitting and pump with a regulator will work well.

Thanks all,
Ended up using a heavy duty trash bag. Sealed the ends with the plastic clips and a bead of caulk. One lesson learned is to cut servo wells after sheeting. Made quite a depression in the sheeting over the cavity :
