My next mod began when I saw this advert from Microheli (who hasn't?), for the shogun:

That's Microheli's washout base.
But those guys just made the above but forgot that most of us don't have this part (arrow):

Without this part, the washout base is useless.

The reason I would love this part is because even the CNC washout base has a lot of slop in them. This is because the washout base slider is held from swinging by only the plastic block inside.
So here's how I solved it...

I bought this Main rotor housing set from Align:
http://private-aircraft.biz/shop/product_info.php?cPath=23_24&products_id=69&osCsid=a5f1890648ae5af47792b433ad84fd50

This is how it looked like out-of-the-plastic bag fresh and un-modded...

This is how my washout base looks like (after 400+ flights):

I installed the Trex XL main rotor housing onto the Walkera main shaft (fits perfectly), and placed the pitch slider in the usual manner. The 'groove' of the pitch slider fits almost pefectly in between the two metal pin guides:

I've had to file a bit of the washout base (arrow) so that the pin guides had NO contact with it. I then added an alluminum tube (can't remember I got it from where). The two pins slid into this tube perfectly after many trials and further filing of the washout base.

The two alluminum tubes (on both sides) are then CA-ed onto the washout base, with the help of nylon treads as structural support:

I made sure that one of the alluminum tubes (arrow) was short enough to give clearance for the plastic slider guide to go in:

And therefore here is the completed washout base with the Trex XL head in place:

I then dismatled the above set up and cut off the bottom part of the Trex XL main rotor housing:

And carefully cleared the pin guide support so that it can be inserted onto the CNC shogun main rotor housing:

Righto on with the Mod!
The inserted plastic part is CA glued onto the shogun rotor head. Just to make sure it doesn't come off, I added a screw on each side, as so:

No way its gonna come off!

There was one other issue I had to solve with this mod, and its the washout base plastic block - due to the two side pins, I had to file this plastic block smaller:

I always hated this plastic block. It is small, fragile and most disturbing of all - its one of the most critical part that keeps my bird up in the air. Notice above, the plastic fibres have started to fray due to age and usage.

Plastic!!

I've tried building my own block using alluminum, epoxy, hard plastic - all FAILED!! They would all break in the middle when the pitch rod is inserted.

So having no ideas left, I went to see an engineering friend, and he said he'd solve it for me. And wallaah!! Here's what he came up with:

And moved smoothly inside the main shaft. Maaaan!! This gets better and better! And being alloy, I don't expect to buy anymore of those plastic stuff. I believe this one is gonna last!!
