Next, I filed the drilled area flat:

This was to make is easier to work at making the drilled area bigger and elongated:

(By the way, all this drilling is so that the pitch slider block can be inserted into this washout base).

I later realized that the pitch slider block would only function around the inner copper bushing. So the outer part of the washout base (after the pin guide) could be made bigger. So thats what I did:

By making the outside hole bigger, I could work at making the inner hole and copper sleeve to the rectangular dimension of my pitch slider block:

This process was repeated on the other side of the slider block, but at a much smaller size (I only need to insert the slider block from one side).

Anyway, after making a big enough opening, I went to my engineering friend, and he whipped out a slider block that fit exactly the hole that I'd made (don't ask me how he did it, cuz I don't know).
The top two are the 'normal' pitch slider block, while the bottom is the special block made to fit the modded washout base:

The inner rod went in smoothly - and I get to test the slider mechanism for the first time - the copper bushing is smooth!!

To re-cap, the insertion hole for the pitch block is bigger on the side of insertion:

Compared to the other side (the function of this hole is only to push out the pitch block during disassembly):

One thing about the Align washout base is that the threaded hole for installation of the washout arms is further out by 1 mm from the original shogun washout (red dot):

This has resulted in the washout links to the swash plate to be tilted at an angle (yellow lines), instead of verticle originally. To enable the whole system to function smoothly, I've had to increase the lenght of the links (red arrow) by using the Align links.

All in all, it took me one whole day to finish this mod. . But the lack of play and smooth pitch movement made the whole effort worth it. Here's a vid of me testing the system for the first time:

At this juncture, I would like to give a big THANK YOU (!!) to Jim P. a.k.a. HORNET 32 (RCGroups.com) for donating these Trex bearing cases to me. Your generocity just blows me away!

They are absolutely sweet, perfect and what I've been searching for - for a long long time!!

Together with this ultimate upgrade, I used the ceramic bearings I've been saving up for such a special occation :

These were gotten at a very reasonable price from wattsuprc:

Similar to what I did at post 29, I installed the bearing cases bottom followed by the top. I did this to ensure that the bearing cases are placed perfectly in alignment between the top and bottom.
First step was removing the bottom plastic bearing case, and rebuilding a flat platform (arrow) using CA and CA Powder:
